Well in preparation for buying my xB next year, I was wondering if there were any specific brands of rims I should stay away from? I've tried researching over the net and have come up with TONS of tire reviews but little to no reviews of rims. There are several I have in mind for consideration but am not sure as to the quality. I've already learned, from this board, that I should probably stay away from the SSR rims (dang it!!) because of issues with withstanding large potholes and bumps. Anyway, the roads in my area aren't too bad as far as potholes and such go but it's more of a...precausion on my part if you catch my drift. (hehe drift.......oh sorry!) So now that you're thoroughly bored with my inane jabber, here's some of the rims I'm considering:

(Note: I'm sticking with 17x7 more than likely with 215/40r17 tire)

19" SSR GT3's can suck my nuts. I had those, went over a deep pothole maybe going 20 mph and they got tore up. I switched to Racing Hart C5's on the same vehicle and same tire specs, went over pothole daily (at school) at 35mph and not one problem yet. I don't what went wrong but it just couldn't handle a big load I guess. Either way, they can blow me

Speed Star Racing (SSR) wheels are very high quality and very lightweight--but most of their wheel designs are purposely designed to be used on nice flat tracks, and not driven around being smacked around--they are indeed very soft rims...and I've heard other stories of them being fragile when exposed to anything but the best of road conditions. I heard of an incident with the SSR Type C (Competition)..but like I said, a wheel designed for the track might as well stay there...but still--not a good street rim if they will bend and mangle like they have or so I've heard.

What's your price range...that will help us dictate where your choices lie a lot better as far as wheel brands and designs go.

ive owned ssr starsharks, mk2s, and reverse mesh wheels and had no problems with them. these are old model SSR wheels but im not sure how the new SSR wheels are. i really like WORK wheels and RS Watanbe wheels. those are the brands i purchase and own. Longchamp XR4s are also great wheels as well and go great with the xB. i have a set of 17x7 Work VS-MX wheels forsale if your interested. just email me for pictures and pricing.

well I'd like to keep it as low as possible without sacrificing quality...but with some of my personal rim choices that I'm finding I'd guess-timate about a max spend limit of around 1000 bucks, give or take, for rims alone. I would, again, prefer cheaper, but if I like the rims well enough and/or they are good quality I'd be willing to save up the extra money. Thanks again for the help!

Toy_bB - hehe well thanks for the offer but no...I'm not ready to purchase anything, let alone the rims, as of yet. I'm just making preliminary preparations, as it were.

showpaojoe - Yes that's what I've heard from several people...it breaks my heart. I REALLY REALLY wanted those SSR Professor SP1's... (yeah I know thosed be WAY more than my projected 1000 dollar spending limit but...like I said I'd be willing to save up if I liked'em enough.)

The SP1s look very very solid...unlike the GT3, which have really thin spokes...I never liked the design for that reason alone, and to this day I don't know why so many M3 owners like the GT3 design...

Anyhow, like the Blitz xB in your avatar is rocking the SP1's...I think you should have no problem with strength issues on the SP1s...if you see them in person, you willknow what I mean...they are built very beefy!!! Not to mention, they look beautiful as well!

Anyway thanks for the info JDM...now if I could just find a place that sells'em...I'd prefer local but I'd take online. Anyone know of anyone either online or in the Dallas, TX area that sells SSR SP1's? Generally speaking, what's the pricing run on those? If you know that is.

Yea, in all honesty--I would confidentily roll on the Professor SP1s.

Potholes can ruin ANY wheel, I don't care how expensive they are...the thing is to just drive carefully and always make sure you have your tires properly inflated!!!

Just a quick check on the prices for SSR Professor SP1s in 17x7 size...

17x7 SSR Professor SP1 are $406 per wheel, coming out to a total of near $1624.

This is just taken off some website that I happen to find the wheels on, I can call for a better price at this place local to me in So. Cal that is a big overseas wheel importer for you, and I'll post it once I get a solid #. There will be free shipping (hopefully), and I've seen how this place packages wheels/tires to be shipped--I was amazed at how well they came packed!!!

You can also PM ScionVan ...he's a wheel ***** as well, and can possibly get you a good price on those wheels, and recommend certain fitments and that sort of thing.

JDM - Thanks again, dude! I appreciate it a great deal! And yeah I know potholes can damage all rims but, as stated before, I just wanted to be careful in my purchase. Anyway, just as a side note, do you know if Konigs are any good? There are several models that I'm considering of theirs. Again thanks!

scionspecialistvegas - ummm...no thanks on the rims. Honestly, I'm not a big fan of the meshes. As far as the alarm goes, thanks but no thanks. I think I'll stick with the stock scion alarm.

Konig is a reputable brand that has been in the game for a long time now, and I can honestly say that they have earned their stay as one of the top U.S. "tuner" wheel companies.

They aren't regarded as highly as other Japanese companies such as Work, SSR, etc...but that doesn't mean they are bad rims, but they have much friendlier prices than those previously mentioned. You are looking at typically no more than $1000 for rims alone, and even that is pushing it!

They have some nice UNIQUE designs...and that's what I like about Konig, as opposed to a company like Tenzo, where 98% of their wheel designs are blatant ripoffs of other companies!!!

There have been debates on topics such as "you get what you pay for when it comes to rims, etc"...but I really don't feel like getting the politics that are involved in that arguement--because at the end of the day, whatever you are happy with buying, will hopefully keep you happy--and that's way more important than having more expensive rims than the guy next to you.
