XXR 501's clearcoat came off.

Well, the clearcoat protects the actual 'finish' on the wheels- so without the clearcoat, they wheels might chip or just wear the finish off much, much faster.
Hopefully XXR will replace them, I have had some XXR's and I actually used them as winter wheels and I had no issues. Maybe they changed clearcoat suppliers or something to have caused this.
If they do no replace them, I would get them re-sprayed or powdercoated. It shouldn't cost very much to get them re-cleared- esp. if you know someone with their own paint equipment.
Good luck!

i have the same wheels on my car right now and i've turned them into my winter rims. Two of my rims have lost all their clear coat on the lip part.
I think it might be this rim style that is prone to the chipping.
I was ____ed at first but now i don't care so much as they are ruined and don't plan to get them coated again. Since it costs about $100 a wheel.

Happened to me about a year ago with my 501's. I used Meguiars all wheel cleaner on them and BAM! There went some of the clear coat.
I got in touch with XXR, apparently there is a 1 year warranty on the finish but you have to go thru the distributor you bought them from.
After talking to them I learned it was gonna cost me about as much to ship them back and have them repaired or replaced than it would to just buy a brand new set so I didn't worry about it.
Sucks it happened, but good luck with the outcome.
