Anyone else thought of a Chop Top Xb?

juss wonderin....

Jester 03-16-2004 04:50 PM

I was thinking about the same thing. I've always wanted to chop the top, but I don't know if it would look good or not. I wonder if anyone already did it. If so, please post some pics...

For a nice weather car it would be interesting, but fabricating a convertible top would be a challenge. It would end up looking like a Model T top!

I did some photoshop work for a guy on here and chopped the top, there is a three inch and a BIG chop.....I think some cars shouldn't be chopped......xB is one of those cars. IMHO.

I don't want a convertible, just wanna bring the roof lower a couple of inches.

I think chopping anything is hot, but those pictures seem extreme, but who knows.

Jester 03-16-2004 05:32 PM

Does anyone know the cost of chopping the top?

scioninla 03-16-2004 05:35 PM

Keep an eye out for Tuner Bash in Florida...Scion has a surprise..I am sure everyone will like what it is!

monkeyboy 03-16-2004 05:36 PM

Is there enough room in the body to channel it also because that would be sick.... I like the extreme chop looks like one of the cars from the twenties....

ncscion 03-16-2004 05:38 PM

you and a couple of your boys could do it yourself in a weekend. probably cost couple grand if done by a shop.

Jester 03-16-2004 05:43 PM

I don't have the slightest idea on how to chop the top.

monkeyboy 03-16-2004 05:48 PM

Well you would have to brace the interior so the body doesn't warp, then you remove all the glass.... mark your spots and cut you will have to fabricate new a pillars and get custom glass cut..... then line the other pillars back up and weld back together....it's pretty labor intensive..... not something I could do by myself....

I like Subaru's Chop Top'd WRX (STi?)...

its_ikon 03-16-2004 07:41 PM

i think everyone has thought about it, but the cost of doing it is alot.

thnx for ur guys thoughts, i knew i wasn't alone.

I always thought it looked a lil too tall and too high for a ride height.

Making it chopped a lil, with a nice drop would make it look prettly slick won't you think?

I did this "Photochop" a while ago to see what it would look like... not as extreme as the other, and I think it works. I doubt I'll actually do it, but Cashman keeps bringing it up...

I have chopped tops before on street rods. and luckily the xB is a lot of straight lines. That makes it a lot easier to do. Model As have vertical pillars so it is possable to do the metal work on a chop in one or two days. An xB would be about 3-4 days because the pillars are not exactly straight up. the roof will have to be split and widened.

Probably something like this:

Suzuki Lapin SS Works with a chopped top. It's another boxy car like the xB.

i think its going to look like ___. :? as for channeling the body over the frame. there is no frame, its unibody.
