Bb Headlights with HID

Anyone running authentic Bb headlights with an HID kit? I want to go this route, all the projector style housings dont do it for me, but i dont want the glare of the stock housing. Wondering if the design of the Bb headlight makes for a better view for me and other drivers.

Any input?

I have "zenki" heads W/6000k Hid's and they are really bright. I'm going to tone them down a bit with some tint shields.

You're still going to have some glare. HID in any reflective housing that wasn't designed specifically for HID will glare.

Now, since the bB headlights have a diffraction lens instead of a clear one, the glare is broken up some. It should be an improvement, but it won't be as good as HID in a projector.

thats what i thought, the different lens would lessen the effect. I remember seeing some bb headlights on ebay, that said they were jdm hid from japan, for like 1,000. I never researched them to find out if they were legitimate or not, or even if they were projector inside the lens (lens still looked the same.)

The other headlights with projector lenses just dont really strike me. I would have to mod them to make them fit my taste.

I dont want to pay big JDM bucks, but I want a quality headlight.

I dont know much about the zenkei, is it a lens swap or a new headlight?

evosky 07-25-2009 04:49 PM

zenkei just means 1st gen. the zenkei headlight is from the 1st gen bB in japan, which is a non-reflective/clear lens. the 1st gen scion xb = 2nd gen toyota bB. the headlight will be a complete swap, but you will have to do rewiring to make them work. also, they will be pointing the wrong way for US roads.

the jdm headlights you saw on ebay for 1K are most likely legit. they look like the standard headlight assembly, but if you look closer, they actually have 2 different bulb housings inside, one for low beam, one for high beam. it was an HID option for JDM bBs.

i have HIDs in my OEM headlights, and they look/work fine. at first people were flashing me all the time because they though i had highs on. i just adjusted them to point down a bit more, and everyone's happy now.

i've got 6000K HIDs in my bB headlights and they are just fine. you should be good.

If you do have problems with glare, you can always add casper shields.

I read somewhere that if you paint the insides of the headlight reflector a certain way it will change it too, cant remember where I saw it on here though.

iphlingpoo 07-27-2009 02:25 AM

it is true, if you paint the reflectors in the headlights it will mess with the light output it is giving off.

i run bB zenki headlights with 6k's no problem. its bright but what hid kit isnt bright?

daneisthegreatest 07-27-2009 06:17 AM

im running 10K HID's in my bB Zenki headlights and i am ticking a lot of people off...the other day i had people on the other side of the median flashing me and i was in the slow lane :-/ but oh well i love the headlights and the flushness.

SuperMario6582 07-28-2009 03:46 AM

really? i dont hardly ever get people flashing their highs at me. but then again i'm not running 10K, just 6K.

sdsnybny 07-28-2009 04:12 AM

Dane there is 2 adjustments for the "Zenki's" like on the Sonar halo's one moves up/down the other left/right. because they are designed to drive on the right side I had to aim the again after install. Now I dont have any body flashing me.

SuperMario6582 07-28-2009 04:29 AM

when i got mine they really didnt need too much adjusting. right now i got them adjusted pretty good but they could use a little fine tweaking to get them just right.

i dont have anyone flashing me either! but if hes running 10k there is less light output than 6k, so if hes blinding people with 10k imagine if he had 6k

daneisthegreatest 07-30-2009 08:44 PM

i'd hate to see if i had 6k or 4300k in there...but i did some adjusting to them and only got flashed once last night, ill fine tune them tonight after work and everything should be good.

if anyone is thinking about getting bB headlights, check ebay, i got mine for $250 shipped and they made it to my door in 3 days from Hong Kong.

if you do get them, go ahead and order the 7443 light sockets at the same time for your corner lights so youll have everything for the install...the bB headlights use standard H4 bulbs, and make sure the seller sends you the socket and harness for the city lights.

you definitely wont be dissapointed with your purchase.

I painted the reflector on my USDM OEM heads to block most of the light from the high-beam section of the reflector, but I haven't tested them...

mr_bb2u 04-22-2010 01:18 PM

what size hid bulbs are you running in the bb headlights...for some reason my h4 hids i used in the us headlight wont work with the bb headlights. so i am currently running the stock bulbs that came with the bb headlights. do i need a h4h hid for the bb headlights? lmk...thx just trying to found out the correct size the bb headlight use in japan

burstaneurysm 04-22-2010 10:06 PM

I'm quite sure it's just a standard H4.
