So get this, my wife takes the xB out last night for some shopping, the headlights work the first place she goes to, she comes out, and they won't turn on.
The parking lights come on, you can turn the high beams on but the headlights will not turn on, I checked the fuses, and I checked one bulb its not burnt out.

So why would they not turn on, I hope its not the toggle in the car because I am sure that will cost a bunch.

Any ideas?

It seems as though the switch may be causing the problems if it aint a fuse or bulb issue. Although dont quote me on that since I have no experience with headlight problems.

 

I'm going to guess that it's the relay. Check the service manual @ scionlife.org.

 

relay? I did not see anything in the diagram for the headlights, involving a relay??

Crap, you're right. Then it's either the switch or faulty wiring. If you know what your doing you can go through it with a multimeter and see if a wire is broken and if the switch. Otherwise visually inspect the wiring, it could be something stupid like a partially disconnected harness.

 

how were you able to confirm that the bulbs were ok?

 

took them out and looked at them, and I think it would be a first ever, both lights blew at the same time

 

did you test for power at the socket?

 

gotta another set of bulbs lying around? wouldn't hurt to swap them and see if the bulbs really did go bad.

 

well I got the switch , it did not work, they still do not turn on I checked the sockets there is power, to the brights not for the headlights though, I guess I will go with getting a bulb and seeing if that is it, it would be amazing that both went out at the same time, if that is not it I guess I would go with the relay, but that makes no sense either

 

The relay may not be completely gone. I had the same problem with my running lights, except they would randomly come on when the car was shut down. The relay tested good, but it turned out that there were power fluctuations.

Even if it's not the case, it's worth checking out.

 

Where on the car is the relay, I have seen the schematic of the wiring but it does not show where it is at physically on the car,

 

look in the relay location section of the wiring manual

 

my tC did this the other day..pull the negative battery cable and wait a couple mins and make sure the headlight switch is in the off position and hook the cable back up and see what happens

 

Well I guess the lesson for myself here is keep it simple stupid, though being that both lights went out at the same time was amazing and well..... it turned out it was just the bulbs, I was trying to get a relay from the local auto-parts stores and none of them had it. So I thought what the hell I will by a cheap bulb and see if that it. Ding!! it lit. Sheesh well I said that the next time my silver stars went out I was going to get HID's so that is what I am going to do, any suggestions on a vendor to by the HID's from?
