Rear side window Popouts
|
i've seen none as of yet
it would be cool too see |
ewww. doing this in a xB would remind me of a Chevy Astro or a Ford Aerostar.
|
Hmmm... :ponder:
I know someone on here can pull this off with some time, $$$ and effort! |
sweet idea.
|
I would think you just have to get the seal around the windows to be nice and tight.
|
Minivan my a$$! That would be the shizz. If only we could have a safari windshield also!
|
^^^ we get enough bugs on the window. i don't want any of those big ones (SE North Carolina) to be in my car.
|
Interesting......... :ponder:
|
Pop-out windows would be the bee's knees.
I also would like to see the hatch glass open independently of the hatch. Same idea, really. @bbszero69: seconded! |
I would rock it.
|
Hmmm. I've thought of pop-outs too. I had a Superbeetle for a long time that didn't have them. VW thought the flow through air system would be adequate. Big Laugh. With the windows down at highway speeds you could get pretty good air oscillation in the car. In the dubs I had with the pop-outs, no oscillation. I think they would be cool on a box. If they could be wired to open & close electrically, mmmmmm!
Cheers, |
Pop out sides is possible to get the rear glass to open involves remaking the hatch.
I already know how to do it but no time or money for the side windows to pop out. Another idea I will end up letting someone to beat me to it. |
seems like a no brainer mod for an XB.. first thing i thought when i got mine was "these dont open?"
oh well. |
^^^I wished that the rear hatch glass opened too but noooooooooooooo...
|
The easy way to get pop out side windows is to get the hinges and locks from an early 90's voyager or caravan. They have all the nessary hardware. And you can get a good shop to drill the holes in the glass.
Only problem I found was you either have to legnthen the wires for your antenna ( they are on the rear side windows) to allow them to move, or drill a hole to mount the antenna externally. giving the wires more lenth was the easy way to go. :lalala: And metro, the hinges are a solution to getting the window glass to dothe same, just mounting the hinge at the top and the locks at the bottom. |
The only real problem would be having the new glass made with the holes,Or you could epoxy them on to the original glass.(cant drill tempered glass)

I actually thought of making mine, both sides and hatch, roll down. YOu could use the parts from any old car with power windows for the sides, and parts from an old Bronco for the hatch. BUt now I have the Carrozzeria's, so the sides are out of the question.
