Scion xB Interior Overhead Light- Front
Any ideas where I can get an Interior Overhead Light for the front seat? It's so dark and the little cig plug lights don't work.
Is there one someone can recommend?
I live in Los Angeles, but am hoping if I can't buy one here, I can get one on the Internet and have it installed...

There is one, made by Toyota. Same color as the plastic trim and headliner. It is made for the BB in Japan. Two focused lamps, one for each front seat, garage door opener holder and a draw for sunglasses. I have the part number on a page I printer from this website. There is a great thread about how to hook up an overhead console to your dome light. I will locate the printout and post again in this thread. This is on my list of mods for 2006. Look in the TECH section until I re-post.
The part number is 81240-12060 Toyota part number. This part matches the exact color of our headliners, left and right reading lights and two compartments for glasses or garage door opener. I hope you can see the photos in this do-it-yourself tutorial.

I was going to order another OEM cab light and just mount it in bewteen the visors. It was under $35 at the dealer complete with lens and bulb. It shouldn't be too hard to mount it. I guess when I get mine in, I'll post pics...
I installed an auto dimming mirror with 2 map lights, one for the driver and one for the passanger. The lights come on when you open the doors or when you press the button on the mirror, it gives off plenty of light and the front of the xB is no longer dark when I enter the car at night.
The basic mirror with map lights is around $89.00 and it comes with everything you need to install it. It was fairly easy to install, the instructions are good and the wiring harness has everything you will need to install. I have attached a link to the mirrors below.

I want to get the gentex mirror with maplights, compass and outside temp. Is there something special required to have the maplights come on when you open the doors? And what did you put over the spot where the stock mirror was?
That is the exact mirror that I have and it comes with the wiring harness which will allow the lights to come on when any of the doors open. I am working on a cf sunglass holder /console mod to cover the old mirror mounting screws.
FYI - You can pick up a 3 LED bulb to replace the bulb in the standard overhead light. The LED's are aimed in such a way as to iluminate both front seats and the center console very well. It is much brighter than stock, costs $3.99 and is at Pep Boys.

Ya, as said above you don't really need another light just get a brighter bulb. I went to my local Fifth Gear mod shop and picked up two super bright bulbs for about $20 and they light up like daylight. I keep the other as a spare in my glove box just in case.
I went to my local U-Pull-It salvage yard; looked for front overhead lights. Found a unit from a late 80s early 90s Dodge Dynasty with two focused lights with two switches built in. It was approximately 4 in. wide by 6 in. long, dark grey color, three wire output. The best thing is it had a separate metal bracket that clips onto the headliner, then the light assembly snaps into it- no drilling or other bracket needed. The three wires are ground, power and switched ground. The overhead light in my xB has a blue/yellow power wire, red/yellow switched ground, and screws into a grounded metal support. I cut a hole in the headliner between the sunvisors with a box cutter (made famous by 9-11) that just fits the metal bracket from my salvage yard light; then bent the six tabs on the bracket around the headliner opening; ran the three wires inside the headliner with a straightened coathanger back to factory overhead interior light; ran the ground wire with a spade lug to the grounded screw location; spliced the two other wires into the power and switched ground (after disconnecting the battery ground); then hooked everything up. this took about three tries to get the right wires to make everything work.
Now I have front lights that light up the front seats and ignition switch so I can see to install my key when any door opens; turns off just like the factory light , and each of the two lights can be turned on at any time to illuminat my lap or the passenger's lap whenever I want. It is great, all for $8, some wire and my time -about two hours counting my miscues.
