Airbag light is on.

Good afternoon all. I'm new to the forum and was wondering if someone can point me in the right direction.

Car:

2006 XB with 56K miles. It was in an accident before I purchased it and the airbags were deployed. The steering wheel one for sure, not sure about the rest.

What is the proper way to diagnose which airbags need to be replaced?

If I purchase the one for the steering wheel and get the crash codes in the module cleared, what will happen if I install the new airbag and module and another airbag needs to be replaced?

Will a simple scan let me know which ones need to be replaced?

I purchased this car for my niece and want to make sure it's repaired properly.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would say take it to the dealers, have them diagnose the car and then walk out. Make sure you get the work order so you know what is wrong.

Thanks for the reply. I was thinking of doing that, but was wondering if they would charge me to do so.

Will them scanning the system tell them specifically what I need to replace or just that they have been deployed? I've never dealt with any airbag issues before.

Thanks

I dont know about your dealership...but the toyota scion dealership here charges 70 dollars to diagnose a vehicle

You can read SRS codes using a paperclip. Instructions here: http://www.clubxb.com/forums/f2/my-a...tta-31977.html Once you get the codes it will be easier to estimate what components are needed.

check you under seat connectors

If you had the bags deploy, you'll notice by the 12" slit in the dash for the passenger side above the glove box. Take off the steering wheel to see if you have an airbag there.

Thanks for the reply, I know for a fact the steering wheel one has deployed. They taped it up and put it back in there. The passenger one appears to be intact, I will be replacing the steering wheel one tomorrow then taking the module to get reset and all that good stuff.

Wait xBs had airbags?

Something that your life may depend on is def on the "take it to the dealer" side of the "how many beers should me and some friends have to fix this" scale

if the steering wheel is taped up
why are you concerned with the airbag light?

I'd take it to a dealer as well...

I've had the pleasure of eating airbag before...dont go there
