Brake Lights - 2 of 3 Don't Work

2005 xB (201,000 miles)
A nice policeman informed me yesterday that my car's Center and Passenger Brake Lights were not working.
- Only the Driver Side one works.

I am confused by the fuse block diagram labeling.
It seems that only one fuse (#16) controls ALL Stop Lights (brake lights).
- Will check Fuse #16 later this morning.

Does this car have two circuits to prevent total Brake light failure in case of 1 fuse being blown?
(e.g. one fused circuit for the driver's side brake light, and one for the Center and Passenger Side brake lights?)

Thank you.

Have you started by checking the bulbs/harness? Do your signal indicators work? I'd start there before diving further into circuit issues.

Definitely start with new bulbs. 99% of the time they're the issue.

Doesn't the owners manual tell you how to change the bulbs???

Thank you, all.
- I really should not over-think things, but take them one step at a time.

I just changed the center (3rd) Brake Light bulb.
And.... it works! :)

Tried to change passenger side Brake Light bulb, but find it will be easier to remove the whole tail light assembly (2 easily accessible nuts), replace the bulb, and reinstall the tail light assembly.
All I have to do now is find that 10mm socket.
- I know that it is on the end of a socket wrench.... somewhere.:icon_redface:

you need to remove the tail light assembly to change the bulb. theres a little panel that pops out on both sides inside the hatch.

Had to borrow a neighbor's socket and drive, but just found mine today... behind the tool carrier on the work bench.
- How it got there I will never know:redface:

Anyway, took off the inside panel door and got my wife to reach up and replace the bulb.
No change.

Next step is to trace power.
- Grr...:flame:

This link might help with locating where the wires run - I wonder if you have critters gnawing on wires - it can happen!!
