Default Chip in REAR window

Cleaning car this weekend, and I noticed a chip in my rear window. Yeah, I said rear. No clue how it got there. It might be 1/16" round and not very deep. Here's my question:

Will my comprehensive insurance cover this for no deductible since it's not the windshield? (I'll call them later, just curious if someone has had experience to give me pointers)

Second: If they will do nothing past the deductible, should I get it fixed? It's something I will never notice while driving, but is it gonna spread or crack? It does get quite cold here (down to 10 this weekend.) Again, anyone have any experience with this issue?

Thanks for your input.

it wont spread, it won't "crack", it wont get larger and it's not fixable.

the glass is tempered. all you can have done is complete replacement. if you have an actual chip in the tempered glass, don't be shocked if the window just explodes 'for no reason' one day, that chip is now a weak link in the entire window and just the 'wrong' stress will break it.

Well that sucks. Its kinda what I thought, but good to know. The chip is very shallow, hopefully it will last a while. Thanks. Now for the insurance issue. I will make the call tomorrow.

if it's really "minor" you'll PROBABLY be ok. I see chips in tempered glass all the time - I just make a note of it on the work order so I don't take the fall for it later.

There's just that 'possibility' being that it does creat a weak spot. To be honest, if it NEVER broke... I wouldn't be to shocked. It's just not fixable like a windshield is.

Gotcha.

Thanks for the help. It's not high on my priority list, but I will look into getting it fixed if it's not gonna cost me anything.

(my first post here)
I went up to my local dealer today, all ready to put my deposit down on a tc... just before i did though i asked for another look at the car which was one from their lot. The sales guy went outside, warmed the car up and cleared off the snow, i joined him and sat in the car for a couple of minutes scoping it out. The outside temp display said 11 degrees. I got out the car, shut the door and was just about to say "yep i'll take it, where do i sign?", when the entire back windscreen exploded and fell in... glass everywhere and it was snowing too...

the sales guy had offered me a last test drive a couple of minutes before, i'm really glad i decided against it because i wouldn't like to have been driving when it happened . i left without signing a thing...!
