Default Doors wont unlock when inside the car

My girlfriend just bought an 06 xB. Just last night she got into the car and closed her door and all the doors were locked and she couldn't pull the **** or use the switch to unlock them. Only after she put the keys in the ignition did they unlock.
This is a big issue for me. What if the car goes in the water or flips or something like that and she can't get out of the car.

I feel a little better knowing that this isn't the only 06 xB to do this. But it still isn't desired.

Also this happened to the passenger side door several times. The only way to unlock the door is to use the key. I don't want to be trapped inside the car if something goes wrong.

We have an appt to see the dealer this friday to look into the head unit cutting out. But I want to know if anyone else has had this problem and got it fixed. I just want to be able to bring it up to the dealer and not get the oh we can't duplicate the error schpeel.

Thanks to any help you guys can give.

That's the main problem. The lever is locked in place and can't be moved. No matter how soft or hard you pull.
It is the strangest thing I have every seen in a car.

Curiosity got the best of me, so I went out at noon and tried to get Stubby ('06 xB) to behave that way. No matter what combination of locking and unlocking with the key, the fob, the door switch and the door button with the doors open or closed and ignition on or off that I tried, I could always just pull up on the door button to unlock the lock. I dunno what is going on with your xB, but it seems weird to me . . . but not as weird as the looks I got from other folks in the parking lot. Oh well, I'm somewhat used to that already . . . .

The deal with this xB is that it was totaled out in Jersey. My girlfriend bought it not knowing that.
So I was concerned that there was a electrical problem. That was until I saw that post, now I feel better it isn't just hers.

I do not know how she got it to lock like that, but I hope it doesn't happen again.

You're not the only one... since the day I got my XB mine does the same thing... It took me a while to figure out what would make the locks stick everytime I got in and out. If my doors become locked by me pressing the lock into the locked position with my hand vs using the electric door lock... I must first press the power door lock to the "lock" position before being able to unlock the doors... sounds tarded but that's the way the car has been since I bought it. Basically everytime I roll down the windows my arm hanging out the door locks the door and then when I try and open it everything is all fubar'd gotta lock the doors then unlock the doors just to be open the damn door... tarded

I just glad we don't have those stupid locks like Chrysler products do. Whenever you get above a certain speed all the doors lock automatically. That would drive me nuts.

Amen to that. The Scion is actually one of the few newer cars I've been in lately that DOESN'T do it.

The new Nissan Muranos do that. Above 10 mph, they lock. That can get disabled though with the Nissan handheld tester...
