first rs 4 road trip

my family and i just got back from a long week's road trip, and thought i'd share. it was the first road trip we took the xb on, and overall my wife and i were extremely impressed.

from atlanta, we went to louisville, ky, then up to detroit, and back down to atlanta. i'm used to filling up at ~$50 per tank when we used the quest (gone) or my 4runner, so it did feel kinda good keeping it under $30 every fill up and still getting ~375-400 miles per tank. had the a/c on full and cruised ~80 mph - with traffic of course. handled well, rode well, and fit everything we could want for a week's vacation (golf clubs, 3 "wheelie" suitcases, about 5 canvas bags of toys, etc.).

time for the first oil change tonight, but just wanted to share our joy and pleasure of owning an xb. we've been so pleased with it, i'm actually looking into swapping out my 4runner for a tc.... need to go get a test drive on one of them though.

just my .02. 8)

Glad to hear that the Box handled the road trip well...
I still need to take my BCP xB on a real road trip. I say this cause I've gone to Wisconsin plenty of times but that isn't a real long road trip... :lalala:

That's a pretty good trip. I've only been on a couple 450 mile or so trips in my xB. DC to Myrtle Beach, SC and another DC to Asheville, NC (where I got over 40 MPG on a stretch). I'm still waiting for a big one in the xB.

Took my previous SUV on a super road trip from DC to Key West, FL (by way of Orlando and through the devils garden in central FL) over a week's time. It was a fun drive and about 3.5k round trip. I think it cost like $600 in gas for the SUV so it'd be much cheaper in the xB! Don't know if me and the wife are up for driving the xB those kind of miles though...

Sounds like you had a great trip! I think the xB is great on the road dispite the slightly rougher ride....I have ridden in pick-ups that rode worse..lol

I don't like taking long trips because I don't want to get rock chips on the front end.We like flying to our destinations.

I do a 540 mile commute (round trip, once or twice a month) and the only thing I would insist on is cruise control for an extended trip..

we've got the cruise control option in ours, but i think i used it for about 3 miles... just to make sure it worked. otherwise, i was going with other cars. you gotta keep up, right? :silly:

after driving the xb for ten days, i realized how crummy the ride has become in my 4runner...

i don't think we spent more than $200 bucks for gas the entire time and went just under 2k miles. i'm not one for caring about fuel economy, but the savings from the gas alone was enough to make me smile.
