This is exactly true, however I've never seen the show, but I proved this myself in my own right. Our company drives all four cyclinder Ford Rangers. All of our guys get about 15 mpg. I have to travel from Janesville, WI to St. Louis, MO all the time. 330 miles. I used to have to fill up in central Illinois because I would drive normal and pass people and go about 70mph = 2900rpm at about 23 gallons of gas for the whole trip total. I was tired of having to fill up after almost making it everytime. So I said f.ck it and I dropped my rpms down to 2500 and went 64 mph and didn't go above them the entire drive home. I stayed away from letting the truck downshift for hills or wind or passing the entire time. Not one downshift. Not only did I not have to fill up, but it only took 11 gallons of gas which put the gas tank needle dead nuts at half way. I couldn't believe it. You do the math on that gas mileage, it's insane. I've just blown everyone's mind that works for us and that it is possible. So yeah, and the trip actually takes me just as long because I don't have to stop, so going slower just evens out. So the last 30 times I've made the drive, it's just a straight shot.
