here in newport beach, ca the 87 is at 4.45 today... sadly im in college and its a friday night and i can only go to/from work now. i cant afford to go anywhere else now. its freaking horrible. my other friends are out and driving about and im stuck at my place cuz i just cant afford it. this isht sucks bad! The best investment would have been for the prius, the price on those now are insane...even for one that is out of warranty. Vespas also are up about $500-$1000 than what the always used to be at. But yeah, its friday night and im stuck at my place watching repeat hockey games instead. im over this, time for a change..... please!!!

The cost of crude went up 11 $ yesterday, so in turn my Getty station up the street went from $4.21 to $4.33. This is just getting out of hand. And here some oil tycoon by the name of Boone said oil would hit $150 by the 4th. That would put the high paying states at $5 easy.

$55 to fill my Scion .. i never thought i would see the day. Course those with a 20 gallon tank will be paying $100 to fill up. Thats a big pill to swallow for those who make $100 a day or less.

1. im not going to collect alluminum cans till we officially say we are in a depression.
2. The xb doesnt take much gas to get places? maybe so..but I dont live in Wisconsin, I sadly live in Southern California where you have to use freeways a lot which means thats where our cars use up gas quicker...its a small engine working real hard in the freeways. So saying it doesn't use much gas is a personal opinion, not as much a fact.
3. I do park my box as much as I can.... hence me not going anywhere except to/from work.
4. I have a bicycle, but for the respect to others, I prefer not to get to my destination drenched in sweat and be a disturbance to them, unless im rocking the lance armstrong biking gear- then it's somewhat acceptable for me to walk around sweaty.
5. I did graduate from my junior college with my associates degree- now im finishing up my last 2 years thank you very much.....so thats erroneous pretty much.
6. the gf thing- thats prolly the one funny thing you said.. sadly the rich girls dont tend to cater to guys in scions and or who are riding their bikes do they? lol i think not.

so in all- im not limiting my options, i just cant afford $50+ fill ups out here every 5-6 days or so with my commutes.

now im off to ebay to check out hybrids

I feel ridiculously lucky, I live in Houston, and I filled up the xB for $3.75 a gallon, and now my brother has run off with it to Austin and I'm left with his Buick. At least the Buick manages 30 mpg on the highway.

Bossman

I was being sarcastic...scuse me

our Boxes have 1500 CC motors..there are motorcycles with bigger engines
the xB is also among some of the highest fuel mileage vehicles in America.

of all the vehicles and owners in the world..
we as a group
should be the least affected by the price of fuel

good luck with the hybrid...
those arent too cheap to buy

have you considered a scooter,or motorcycle?

my post above..was to help you to start thinking
one thing is for sure

complaining about things...never solved nothing

good luck with your situation

Gas here is still 3.79 a gal but one place did try to go up to 3.99. I'm riding my motorcycle more now. Only problem is when we both ride our bikes I could get better mpgs with the box. 35 verses 25 (50 cut in half).

So i was watching the national news last night .. and now big oil is saying that the fuel we are curently b*thcing about being $4+ a gallon .. yeah that was made when crude was $90 a barrel and not $138. Now Big Oil is using that theory to say it will jack up prices to an average $6 by the 4th of July. Enjoy!

IMHO i think B.O. will see just how much they can charge before this nation threatens a civil uprising, then they will back off a few ticks. I cant imagine pulling up to the pump on E and paying $70 to fill up.

my post was to correct your mode of input. this is a really stressful time for most everyone especially for my generation as a whole who is in the middle group- also faced with student loans. how can we all pay our loans if we cant get to work, while our dollar weakens as inflation still increases. The annual cost for going to a public university increases 6% as well.... so when you tell someone to go ''finish college'' take in mind that its not what it used to be for you, as well as its yearly 6% hike in prices to just even attend.

I think one thing we all need to do is differentiate better people who are voicing their views/opinions while others are taking it as "complaining".

im not complaining- i didnt even start the thread about gas prices. I just gave my .02 cents on the prices and how its affected myself.

I feel for the people that are trying to do the right thing. The writing has been on the wall for a long time that gas was going sky high. It's all the idiots that kept on buying those big arsed vehicles that I have zero sympathy for. They made their choices now they have to live with them.

I traded in a 2005 Sequoia Ltd 4x4 for the xB.

It was 5 months old with 5k miles on it. Super nice loaded SUV, but I got a job that was 80 miles r/t per day that was going to last 1 year. Most of my jobs last from a few days to a few months max! It was killing me to put $50 every 2~3 days in with gas at around $3/gal.

Lost money on the deal, but in the long run, I won big. I love the box even more than the Sequoia. Imagine what the Sequoia is worth today? Probably can't give it away!

Just bought an 05XB used - 58K for miles. this was a step away from my 01 XTerra, which MIGHT get me 17MPG. I miss the 4WD a little bit, but I know the prices are going to get worse, so the box was just a better choice all around.

Yeah that happens to me all the time at gas stations. Some guy comes up, takes a look at my xa, and then almost immediately asks me what kind of car it is and how much MPG?

Now that gas in California is almost to 5$ a gallon. People ask me all the time

Well as a comparison in Simcoe, Ontario, Canada where I live gas is at $1.37 per litter (regular gas)

So if we do the math of

$1.37 X 3.785 (litters in a gallon) = $5.19 per gallon

We get hit pretty hard with taxes up here. However I will not complain since my last vehicle was a 1985 Chevy pickup with a 350 and a 4 barrel carb.

I thank god I don’t drive that tank any more.

Latter

Sadly enough diesel is $5 per gal. in some states.. and nearly everything is transported by 18 wheelers who get from 5 to 7 mpg. the math works like this.... 5mpg x $5 per gallon = $1 fuel cost for each mile the truck travels. this transportation cost is passed thru to the consumer... hence everything you buy or consume reflects the rising costs of the truckers (and the railroads).

My last fillup in the big rig cost my employer $865.00!
and I get 5mpg pulling a legal sized load.. it has dropped to 2mpg when I pulled a "Super-Load" over-dimensional load.
