I know the drivetrain should last nearly 200k miles, but do you think the xB's has the body integrity and quality of interior materials to last a long time?

Kind of depends on what kind of car owner you are and where you live.

But it's a $14,000 car and there's no free lunch, so something has to give.

In my case, I expect to be bored with the car before it ever wears out.

I think that the real question is, will you still have your xB at 100K. me? I can almost for sure say I won't still have it. I put maybe 5000 or 6000 a year on mine, so at the 10 year mark I'll have MAYBE 60K...

Being a new model I know long term reliabilty is a guess. Although the Echo's record should be a good indicator.

What I should have asked was, "so far, are there any indicatons that your xB won't be around past 100k miles?"

The car will not be FI'd. No modifications on this baby. Replace engine oil every 5Kmiles. Follow proper scheduled maintenance as per the owners manual If I need to replace stock springs/shocks, it will be with Toyota springs/shocks and not some off the shelf suspension system from Autozone.

BTW, my step dad's 1998, 4cyl camry is almost 180K miles. Still runs smooth like new.

this is a question that i haven't given a lot of thought about. if you care for your car and don't hammer away at the interior with a lot of use then it will last. i believe the car as a whole (not engine) will last longer then people think. the engine will out last the car itself though as that is the case with most cars.

Being as I've placed 4100 in a lil under 3 months, and have 5 years, 10 months left in financing, I'd like to have my car AT LEAST that long, and since I want to mod it when the cash comes along, I'd like to have it honestly 8-10 years, then prolly purchase hopefully a new one or a diff model, but I'd deff stay with scion.

i plan on keeping my car for another 2 or 3 years.....i put on about 25-30,000 miles a year, so after 3 years, well, maybe 4 now that i think about it, i'll be reasdy for a newer model or somthing else...

I estimate you''ll get 200K on the car. But the body is thin and Toyota and Honda are notorious for body rot on some of their models. (especially Toyota's chrome bumpers on their trucks). I put 35K a year on my cars so the car will die before the body but my guess is these are going to rot heavily around the wheel wells over time.

Believe this one or not, I got 243,000 on my Chevy Corsica, 3.1 v6. Who'd of thought that would happen? lol

I spend a large amount of time working the interior of my car, I see no reason why the interior wouldn't last quite a long time.

Rot? New cars are pretty damn good about this. I really wouldnt expect the box to rot or rust...unless you drive on heavily salted roads or live right beside the ocean. If you take care of these things they should last forever. I saw a friggin toyota starlet on the road today and the body looked great.
