I committed the ultimate sin! bye bye, xB :(
i work for mercedes and i still love getting into the new E-Class, it is just a car full of win! and i barely get to drive them because there never in for service, havnt seen that many with issues yet unlike every other benz!
Thanks for the props everyone!
- Well worth it if it keeps the car on the road. It literally feels like you're driving something built for YOU. everytime i drive, i am so comfy in the seat, i feel like falling asleep. LMAOOOOOO. 70MPH feels like 30 in this thing!
- Nopers. After driving around a bit in the benz, I feel like I should have gone completely f'in insane and gotten the 2010 S550... I think, after this car, im getting a used Maroon s550 with black leather interior and p2 package. I am in love with this car's ride... I just hope it doesnt let me down in the future ::knock on wood grain interior:: LMAOOOO
- I completely agree w/that.
- i test drove a 2010 bmw twin turbo v6 5 series also... the bmw dealer told me, in terms of reliability, the mercedes and BMW dont come anywhere close to the scion. he said for reliability, i should keep the scion. i think the guy had to be the most honest car salesman i've ever come across.
- LOL. I have to move a lot of hardware around sometimes and the box isnt big enough. nor is the mercedes. so that's why i got the orange beast at my disposal. plus its the best truck for trips to maine in 2 feet of snow.

it had 36,200 or so miles when i traded her in.. i was not even in the market for a new car but the dealer offered me $8,000 for the box and i could not say no. BMW was giving me $6000 for th e box and i saw several on craigslist for like $4000-$5000... so i think it was a good deal....

10K more miles than yours, a year older, and Carmax has it listed for $14K. And they will sell it. Was yours missing the doors or something?

Your Merc dealer will probably turn it over for $10.5K and have no idea how much they could have gotten for it. To them it's just another anonymous Jap econobox - I'm willing to bet they put "all asian cars under $30K" in the same category, i.e. something their demographic basically just ignores.
My advice for anyone reading this post would be to trade it somewhere where they know what it's worth (and what they can get for it), i.e. Carmax or Scion or somebody. CM just offered me $9750 for my '05 with 50K...I wonder what they would have ponied up for yours.
my doors were all there :D but i did have some damage in 2 places:
1: passenger side rear door when some numbnut tried passing me on the right side (on a single lane street). that happened when i had 1600 miles on the box
2: i parked overnight and someone backed up into my box, causing the front bumper to crack and bending the driver side fender
does carmax usually get close to the asking price on their cars? I ask because asking prices are always sooo much higher on sites like that. i have found similar xb's on craigslist for like $7k-$9k, all in great shape, with low miles, in the tri-state (nyc) area. i dont know anything about carmax or how much they sell their cars for but in an economy like this, i cant see someone paying $13k for a box that's easily $4000 cheaper on CL, if not even more cheaper.
i honestly wasn't looking to get rid of the box and i didnt think i would be getting a mercedes that day. i test drove a twin turbo v6 5 series bmw which was great but they were only giving me 6k for my car so that crossed bmw off the list. i went to mercedes and they immediately offered $7500. I told them if they can do 8500, it's a done deal but we eventually negotiated up to $8000. not bad for having bought the car for $16,7000 and using the hell out of it for almost 4 years, IMO.
my e class (with p2 package, heated seats, panaramic sunroof, 14 speaker dolby 5.1 sound system, 6 dvd in dash changer, navi, xenon lights, metallic paint) without a trade, was something like $5,000 down and over $800 a month for 39 months. my payments with the trade in come out to mid 500s per month which is unreal for a car like this. i cant complain. comparing what im paying to others on the edmunds leasing forum, i got a great deal. i've been enjoying the merc like crazy and im at about 300 miles on it now :D

CarMax is no-haggle, as in, they always get all their asking price. And they will get that amount for that car, easily - I've been watching xB turnover and they consistently move like crazy. Texas is one of the places they sit for a bit but that's really not a problem, either.
That's why they pay out more, because they know what they're going to make on it. The body shops and repair places are integrated, and the dealer network is of course gigantic. xB's not selling in NY (or Texas)? Truck it to Jersey. Or Maine. Or Iowa. No problem!
CM does well because of people like me - I would sooner amputate my pinky finger than purchase a car off of CraigsList, LOL. Where's the guarantee? The warranty? I'VE OWNED GM CARS, I KNOW WHAT CAN HAPPEN TO AN ENGINE! ;) CL is risk-city...everything's cheaper there because any purchase using it is almost destined to bite you in the ___.
Well, better luck next time. hopefully somebody else has read this and picked up some tips :p You got a car you love out of it and that's what really matters. Besides, if you leased an H2 and a merc you've obviously got more money than you know what to do with, so clearly this is not a point of great importance, lol

the h2 lease was a mistake. i bought my 1st one outright and it was literally falling apart after 4 years and only 10,000 MILES! I often have to lug heavy things around which is why i need a truck like that. the merc is my weekend ride. i've had it about 25 days now and i just broke 500 miles on it. LOL.
i was never really into luxury cars but the merc is seriously changing my mind... and im getting addicted to them.... i have been searching for prices on leasing lightly used s550s and im shocked to see them for like $5k down and $450 a month. those things are $110,000+ brand new, nicely optioned.
i also have been watching car commercials and i've seen accords at like $219 a month and makes me wonder if i should not have gone this crazy... i feel like i spoiled myself for life.. LMAOOOO! driving the merc relieves stress. like it pampers the **** out of you and when you get out of the car, its as though you didnt drive to where you are... such a wierd feeling!
the E-class is sexy. but you'll blend in real easy driving around Bergen county when you cross the GW. might have to do that horn honk thing in the parking lots :-p
try and parallel park that bad boy as easy as you did with the xB.

I vote the E Class "most improved" over the stodgy, pipe smoking, old mans car the E Class used to be a few years ago.
But in my opinion, and keep in mind it is just MY opinion, the MB just does not compare to the Audi A6 or S5. Add the BMW 5 series to that list too.
Those new Audi's just do something for me.
^ dude, i test drove a 2010 twin turbo 5 series... that thing makes 300 pounds of torque at 1600 rpm... i would push the gas after a stop sign and that thing would SCREAMMMMMMMMMMMMM to like 30 mph in like 2 seconds.... i have not had a lot of fast/sporty cars, mostly trucks etc but i can say that the 5 series was the fastest car i've ever driven :D i went with the benz bc the ride was farrrr more plush than the bmw. the bmw was nice too, dont get me wrong, but the cabin of the bmw could not be compared to the cabin of the merc. it's such a soft ride, the bmw was wayyyy too sporty. it's more sport than luxury and the mercs ride is far more luxury than sport, IMO.
i was never into luxury cars really but the new e-class commercials - where the e class goes fly through the window at the mercedes museum in germany - really caught my attention ;D a friend of mine has an s5.. i want to trade cars with him for a week to see how it compares :D
firesquare - lol - it's definitely tougher to park the merc only because i am being really extra careful not to hit the curb or the car behind me. at least the rear view cam helps with that. lol
I am a minimalist... i dont buy a lot of things but when i have my eye on something, i have to have it. the xb was nice - i bought it outright, brand new, with i think 1 mile on the odo. i wanted to go on a lot of trips and wanted something good on gas, small, spacious, easy to park and cheap to maintain. after the 3 years and 9 months i had my box, i could say that it easily satisfied all my criteria and was my most favorite car i've ever owned. but now that i think about it, i really didnt go on a lot of trips as i wanted
maybe i'll start doing roadtrips in the benz... =/ but srsly, even with the new flashy/pampering benz, i miss my xb.
another thing i miss about the xb - the gas mileage. i would always get near 28-30mpg in the city. no joke, im still breaking in the merc but according to the computer, im averaging only 14.5mpg.... just to compare, im averaging 11.9 in my hummer...................... that's a shocker..... i did an all-highway trip last weekend (~130 miles) and i averaged 25.6 mpg... city driving is murder on my wallet... it's approx $57-$60 per tank now in the benzy... plus, i cant get regular anymore, i always have to the 'middle' priced gas (89 octane or 91 or w/e the gas stations have)
