i hit my rev limiter in 5th gear.
i was driving to san diego on sunday for work and i was late so i was trying to go really fast and i got a big open stretch of road and wanted to see how fast my car would go with my awesome SPFR intake. yeah, i know it only adds 1 HP, but i have heard reports of people not being able to go past 110mph, so i just laid on the gas to see what would happen. well, even though it was kind of at a slight incline, the speed just kept going higher and higher. my wheels are 16" but the tires are smaller and lighter than stock so i know the speedometer was off. it past 120 like it was nothing and kept going. i was only watching the RPMs after that, since engine speed is constant for what gear you are in, no matter what size your tires are. suprisingly the car remained very smooth and stable the whole time. no shaking or anything. i would have backed off if it started making noise or vibrating wierd. but it never did. well, the tach passed 6000 and i kept going to see if there was still a rev limiter in 5th gear. yep. there is, and around 6400 or so, the engine cut out until the revs dropped a little. since i was still floored it quickly went up and hit the limiter again. by then, i knew what was going on and i let off the pedal and slowed down to a more respectable speed. i don't condone this kind of driving, but i was running late so it was ok. i just thought i'd let you guys know that 1.42whp really does seem to make a difference.

BTW, i tried to reach the top speed in my WRX after it was all modified, but i got scared at around 145-150. they say the gearing allows it to go up around 170, maybe more with a strong enough engine and the right wind conditions. once you get past 120, there is a tremendous force of the air on your car that doesn't allow you to go faster unless you have a lot of power.

what are the specs on your tires? you could probably use that one program on the saturn website to see how off your speedometer was.

You SoCal guys drive fast down there on normal freeways. I was just down there on vacation back in August and freeways down there are from 80-90mph mostly on open freeways. Geez...

yea 80 is about normal speed down here. Funny thing is, for some reason its the SUVs that are driving like maniacs.
