I think this qualifies as worst halloween ever.

I left work early last night to be able to go trick-or-treating with my son. Driving out of town a guy apparently loses his brakes in his pickup truck, and instead of hitting the cars in front of him, he decides to swerve across two lanes of oncoming traffic. Just call me oncoming.

Waiting for the insurance adjuster today. From what I could make out from the other driver (difficult since his english was limited), he has insurance, but he didn't have a license. *sigh* This is what I get for leaving work early.

Totalled? Did you see the picture? And your a salesman? Its called 2 new doors, fender, bumper and some paint. It takes a lot more than that to total a car.

whoa, calm down there it was just an opinion
anywhooo, it prolly wont be toatalled but make sure they fx that right cause it can cause some problems donw the road if not properly repaired the first time.

Hope you are okay and sorry to hear you got hit. People were just nuts last night.

There is no total there not even close. 2 new door skins, rear quarter, possibly (new) or even repair the bumper and off you go, it looks like there is no suspension damage so you may have gotten off easy. A good shop will have you out in a week.

Best of luck!

onionescion 11-01-2006 05:47 PM

WOW it reminds me the day of my wedding my envy green one was hit too. Well it sounds like everyone was ok. The car can always be fixxed but it sucks been there!!!
I would say take it too the dealer to have it fixxed the know whats best !!!

wrxtc82 11-01-2006 05:50 PM

Ouch!

The important thing is that you're ok and not injured. Could have been alot worse.

Halloween is over rated anyway

Maybe ask your neighbors for a 'make-up' day, if they're anything like me, they've got tons of candy left over.

Here's to a speedy recovery for your xB

cherryBox 11-01-2006 06:06 PM

glad you're ok.

I think this qualifies as the worst Halloween ever...

w3paint_xA_xB 11-01-2006 06:16 PM

tell me ur son wasnt in the back  , also its hard to say if they will total it or not. i mean i had minor body damage to my Sonoma truck and they totalled it. mainly the cause of it being totalled was because of the frame damage.

Well sure, if the frame is damaged, then that changes things. Even thought that sonoma has less actual cosmetic damage, a hit like that is a lot different than his accident. Insurance companies do whatever they can to avoid totalling a car. Its how they make money. Look at what those damn companies are doing to the people who house was damaged/destroyed in Hurricane Katrina.

tuvanhillbilly 11-01-2006 09:26 PM

Thank heavens I was the only one in the car! My son usually does ride in the back, watching movies.
As an update, it turns out that the driver who hit me not only did not have a driver's license, he had no insurance. The truck didn't even belong to him. My insurance company now is trying to track down the owner of the truck to see if he has insurance (I'm not holding my breath). If not, Uninsured Motorist Claim, here we come! (happy happy joy joy :(
As for whether or not it could be totalled, I just don't know, because the adjuster has yet to look at it. Until we figure out who is going to be paying for it (another company or mine under UIM), we don't know whose company adjuster to send to see it. My understanding (and it can certainly be wrong, it wouldn't be the first time) is that with unibody cars (versus rail frame/body setups as on pickup trucks), they look at "strong" points such as rocker panels and door frames for distortion or variance from factory tolerances. Eyeballing isn't good enough, the tolerance can be as little as 3 mm displaced to qualify for bent beyond worth repairing. Anyhoo, here is some more carnage for your viewing pleasure: (as you can see, ain't no doorskin going to fix that rear door)

Guamsilverbox671 11-01-2006 09:33 PM

Is the rear hatch door accesable? I do agre that any tolerance to the frame is unrepairable, however just by looking at these pics, this can be repaired. But why keep it when you can get the guys insurance to replace it

w3paint_xA_xB 11-01-2006 09:40 PM

good to hear ur son didnt have to go through it. i have totalled 2 cars , one truck and one car ............. heres pics of my other car. they looked at my car for 5 mins and said yep its totalled.

Please read ... the driver had no lisence ... no insurance ... and the truck was not his. The insurance company it trying to track down the owner and have the owners insurance pay for it.

krustytheclown 11-01-2006 09:54 PM

Both the owner of the truck and the driver of the truck should go to jail. Its illegal to not have insurance. Its also illegal to drive without a license, however nothing usually happens to a person without insurance. Maybe a fine. Thats it.

losmorob 11-01-2006 10:03 PM

It looks like it might be all about the "B" pillar.
Does the drivers door open and shut?
How about the rear hatch?

But then again, it doesn't take much for an insurance co. to total a car. It's the liability concerns they have when it goes back out on the road.

If you have any mods; get them off of the car before they total it out. Some companies don't let you touch the vehicle once it is determined to be "totaled".

Jenna 11-01-2006 10:11 PM

Oh wow, that sucks. I'm sorry about your car and thankful your son wasn't in there.
