Does it use a crank or cam sensor?

Yup, he's right. It's a big job to get to. It's right above the oil pressure sender. The knock sensor doesn't use either the cam or the crank. It senses the preignition in the cylinders and retards or advances the timing through the ECM.

In the service manual, it tells you to take out the airbox and intake manifold to get to it...

Default Knock sensor connection

I have a 09 Scion Tc. Throwing a code for high voltage at knock sensor intermittently. It was suggested to check the connector first. However, if it's going to be a pain in the **** to get to, I might as well replace the knock sensor. I haven't found anything that tells me if I can even see the knock sensor without removing the manifold, etc. Any advice, suggwould be greatly appreciated
