Default Making xB the Cig Lighter always on/always hot.

Is there an easy way to do this?

I want the cigeratte lighter to always output 12V so I can charge my phone without the key.

Seems all American cars have always hot cig plugs and all Japanese cars have switched cig plugs. Wonder why?

Anyway, I know it is as easy as moving a wire, etc. but I hoping somebody has done it and already discovered the 'easy' way.

Thanks.

there is a location on the driver's side fuseblock, bottom row, i *think* it's the third position from left, that is always hot. you could double check the cold cathode install in the tech section to be sure.

cherryBox:

Thanks.

Are you talking about the fuse box looking thing that hold the OBD-II port?

I see some fuses, but no easy way to access them. Since most fuse boxes I have seen don't require tools to get to I'm wondering if I am looking at the right place.

It is a 2006 xB.

Thanks again.

You could always make a jumper wire and run it from a circuit that's hot when the key is off and run it to the fuse for the lighter. It'd just be better to wire the lighter straight to the battery tho.

First off, your fuse box is right beside your ODBII plug, you simply have to remove the front cover thingy to access it. It simply pulls off w/ some force.

To make the cig lighter always hot, I'd use an 'add a fuse', that you can pick up from AutoZone ($5) and use this to supply 12v to the cig lighter. Use a multi meter to find an always hot fuse. Then run a whole new wire from the fuse to the cig lighter (should be a fairly easy run), Connect the 12v constant to the cig lighter, tape up the 12v accessory, and pop in your fuse. This will leave you in a position where you could easily switch back if you ever desired.

The only issue I see with this is that the add a fuses are usually rated at 10amp. Don't think you'd pull more than that but it may be worth checking into.
