metal on metal grinding noise - rear driver side wheel

This weekend i was driving my xB (06, 14k miles on it) and as i was driving, i hear like a metal on metal 'screeching' coming from the rear driver side tire area. I have/had no clue what it as. it just sounded like metal was rubbing on metal. when i would be coming up to a red lite, i would apply the brakes then the sound would go away. when i take off from the light again, the sound would reappear..

That was saturday. yesterday, i started my box up, and drove the entire day and i did not hear the sound even once!!!!! i drove normally and i drove even more miles than i did on saturday and the noise did not come up again!

so i am wondering if anyone has an idea wtf that sound was? im going into scion for an oilchange in the next couple of weeks so im definitely gonna tell them about this... just wondering if anyone else had this problem...

Maybe a rock got kicked up and somehow stuck in your brakes?

I get some screetching a bit it it rains alot and I drive my box... but only when I APPLY the brake... but it goes away quickly.

Thank you guys for the replies. The rock guess may be possible but very very odd to me... I get screeching when i drive through water/when it rains also but it goes away after driving in a dry area or after it rains...

regardless of what it is, i'm definitely going to be visiting the dealer soon to get their response. thank you guys.
