New 1st gen xB owner in Dallas!
Hey everybody, new '06 xB owner here in Dallas, TX.
I just picked it up two weeks ago from Texas Toyota in Grapevine. It's whatever the dark blue pearl color is- I don't know the official names. The car is manual, because that's how my wife and I roll. None of the cars at the house are automatic, and we now have 5 including the xB. Hopefully I can slim that down to 3 by summer.
A little about me... I'm a mechanical engineer, and I help to build stuff to blow stuff up. In my "free" time I clean up my kid's poop, wrench on cars, and blow people's heads up on my computer. I do just about all the work on my cars from engine swaps and building to tuning, suspension work, interior etc. The same applies to the computer side- I don't buy anything pre-built except for laptops. I enjoy meaningful talks about engine and suspension theory, greasy nights under cars, and long smoky powerslides around the road course with the top down.
I'm a newbie here, but I'm definitely not a car forum newbie. I've been online discussing cars since before the internet went live to the public, and I'm an admin on a couple of other boards- mostly Honda-centric. I'm here to find out more of what everyone does to the xB, what works, what doesn't work, and where all of you are in the DFW area. Hopefully I can learn some from you guys, and you might learn a bit from me too. :D
Stable:
2003 Honda S2000
2006 xB <-- "new" car for wife
1995 Nissan Hardbody <-- tow cars, haul engines, outrun Mustangs and Camaros in the twisties ;)
1995 Honda Civic sedan <-- built to hell for road course racing, parting out to pay off S2000
1988 Honda Civic sedan <-- wife's old car, swapped engine, wrecked (why I bought the xB)
Pictures to follow sometime this week...
And on the other hand... anyone interested in a set of silver Motegi DV5 wheels with brand new tires? The wheels are (I think) 19x8 +40 with zero curb rash, and the tires are "Clear" brand HP166 215/35ZR19 with less than 100 miles on them. They still have the molding marks across the tread.
Oh yeah. Plans for the xB. It's serving as the family car, so nothing drastic will happen to it. List:
tighten up suspension so it turns better
put maximum tire contact patch on the ground
reduce "bling"
increase "sleeper"
add a little power (little to me might be OMGWTF to you guys)
very mild stereo upgrades (mild to me, but I'm an SQ>SPL guy who still likes to crank it)

Pics...
Some of you may have seen these on that other Scion site... ;)
The xB, bought two weeks ago, but wearing different wheels/tires now:
Daily driver in the front, built up race car behind it (parting out):
Playtime:
Murder:
Murder video (30 second wmv) linky
Engine turned the RIGHT way:
First engine build:
Death of first engine build:
Engine build 2:
Extra suspension fun, handled wonderfully:
Stopped like a **** too, and great caliper clearance:
Death of engine build 2 (bad specs from Endyn on prototype pistons):
Engine build 3:
Yeah, #3 died too. Overagressive tuning from a guy who's no longer in business. Finding out who you can trust is a very expensive ordeal.
My truck:
Less than an inch clearance to the leaf spring, LOTS of tire for something this light, sticks like hell
Still accelerating...
More fun:
Playtime:
My super ghetto CRX:
Ok, that should be enough for now. :D

..Some people will never need to walk....
Good intro...
There is one somewhat odd thing about the box, Scion does not provide a CABIN AIR FILTER even though engineers designed a tray behind the glove box to filter out polen and dust. Any dust on your dashboard? You may not have a filter. Pop off the glovebox and pull out the tray. See detailed photos and instructions in the TECH thread called 'Fabricate your own CABIN AIR FILTER'
Just a suggestion, your wife might like one.
The front end does tighten up with a $20 mod, replace the whimpy stock front sway bar end links with energy suspention bushings, see this link:
https://www.scionlife.com/forums/vie...651&highlight=
Slight power increase? 4-2-1 header and / or light weight pully.
Good luck with the box and post more photos.

Wow... how the hell did I never come back and answer... weird. Guess work got in the way.
Civic died too many times- S2000 was more uh... sensible to use as a mod platform. :D
Hawk, will look into the cabin air filter- and I'll eventually replace all the bushings with poly, but end-links definitely look simple enough. Will skip the pulleys- they tend to cause problems- might look into turbo though. We'll see. Even the 365 kit looks like it has reliability issues, or it's really more the engine's fault than the turbo kit's.
Bloody brain admin dude- first engine lasted 45k miles, misshifted, blew it up. Second was experimental pistons and rods, then given wrong assembly specifications, pistons basically scraped themselves to death inside the cylinders. Third engine- "hot shot" tuner was all talk, blew it up on the dyno. He's no longer in business. None of the engines I tuned myself ever had problems...

Nice box! I can't believe these are still out there. Mine had 38k over 2 years ago when I got it.
Love the CRX and S2000
You will keep getting ideas for the box as you go. New tail lights are a good start.

Still out there? I see a ton of them on the road every day. We bought it with 56k miles in March- it has 72k on it now, and we'll probably put another 3k on it before the year is out.
No problems on the ideas- you just have to look at my track history. I'm no stranger to modification.
