Default scion security is it worth it???

I recently bought a black 2006 scion xb, and ordered the scion security option.
I read some posts from here about scion security, and it doesnt look like its a good security feature.
My question is.....
1.) how many owners of scion xb have the scion security installed on their xb?
2.) is the scion security an effective alarm?
3.) is it worth it to buy the scion security?
4.) if the scion alarm, is not good at all. What are the best alarms out there to purchase?
and most resonable priced. 1500 bucks is overkill for me to purchase a security alarm for the xb.

I read other posts where xb owners were robbed. scary pics to look at of stolen radios or other items on the xbs. I appreciate all commets as i am a newbie in the scion community.

1: Me
2: No
3: No
4: I don't know model numbers, but for the same price as the Scion system, you can get two-way paging and remote start.

I also have it. Not sure if it's any good. Better than nothing. I got it primarily because I liked having some sort of alarm. I wanted the official Scion one so they could never blame an aftermarket alarm for an electrical problem. It was also good to get it financed in the purchase price and my insurance gives a small discount for having it.

Look at the aftermarket if you have anything in your Scion actually worth stealing and you're really concerned. I wouldn't worry too much if you have a stock stereo, never leave anything valuable in sight, and don't have any flashy mods that might attract thieves' attention (like big chrome wheels or custom paint).

Keeping stuff out of sight is most important. I know people who've had their cars broken into for nothing more than a pack of cigarettes, $5 sunglasses, the change in the cupholder, or a cell phone. Always stash everything out of sight. I also carry a black bed sheet so I can cover shopping bags or suitcases. It makes them more difficult to see just glancing inside. A thief would probably be more inclined to break in for a "Best Buy" bag than to investigate a lump under a sheet.

I keep my cars mostly stock and never had one broken into, including the ones without alarms or remote entry (so not even a blinky light). I probably should've saved my money for the insurance deductible in case someone ever does.

I also have the Scion (Toyota) VIP alarm system in mine. It's overpriced compared to many on the market, but it IS fully warranted and fully integrated into the vehicle.

I could have probably gotten more flash and sizzle with an aftermarket alarm installed by a GOOD installer, but the Scion option is good enough for me. It will deflect most casual thieves, and the more serious ones won't be deterred by ANYTHING you might put on the box.

Just make sure that your dealer adjusts and tests your alarm system after they install it - have them show you it works per the instructions. (Many seem to be simply installed, but not adjusted - mine fell into that group.)

BTW: Welcome to the family!!! :D

Not totally true, it actually does do a little more than that.

It can detect any door being opened, it can detect any door being unlocked by pulling up the inside 'button,' it can detect the sound of breaking glass, and it kills the ECU until reset - the car cannot be started.

I have mine set to auto-arm after a short delay, so even if I forget to lock up or turn on the alarm, it still watches the car, and will yell for help.

It's not a totally useless, totally helpless alarm system, and it is buried very deeply into the guts of the vehicle's electronics.

Sounds like not a bad system if you just add a kill switch to the car aftermarket.

Yes, if you have the Scion alarm...

Check your alarm owner's manual (yes, the installer is REQUIRED to give you a copy of the manual - it's in the instructions - you bought it, you paid for it, it's yours).

http://tijil.org/xbsecurity.pdf (Installation Instructions - see page 24)

http://tijil.org/xB_VIP.pdf (Owner's Manual - see page 12)

(Besides, having the alarm auto-arm makes visits to the dealer service department more fun. :D )

I have it. I bought it becaue it's dealer installed and warranty covers it. I didn't want the blame for problems by going aftermarket. My insurance also gives a discount, and it was financed into the purchasae price. I hadn't really planned much for the xb except mild wheels, stereo, etc.

I just got robbed friday during the day, with the factory security armed. They broke the window and it never went off. (search my other posts for pics.) The back window was tinted, they broke it from the edge and didn't bash it in, and they never opened any doors or unlocked the car. The tint held it together and they just pushed the big piece inside.

As I said earlier, I never planned big things when I bought it. Then I put 20's on it and a touch screen DVD in it. I predicted it would get stolen, and the alarm would probably not make a difference. It took 5 months since I put the touch screen in. The wheels have been on for quite some time, but I just had an average aftermarket head unit.

I'm going to buy a higher end alarm with remote start, motion detector, etc.

I'll be removing my factory security sometime soon, so if you want it PM me!

I just had a Viper 771 installed yesterday.... It has a two way tx. It also has remote start, silent arming and tons of add-on features. It was just over 400 at Best Buy after install!!! One of my favorite features is this: When you start driving the doors lock... When you turn the car off they unlock! My xB is the first car I have ever had that did not come with the feature from the factory. When I bought the alarm kit I had no idea that this feature would be added. Needless to say it was a much welcome suprise!

Yeah, I expected the Scion system to do this, but it doesn't. I really got used to it in my last vehicle and my wife's car. Some will complain about the automatic unlocking, but I liked it.

That would suck if someone jacked my xB cuz the doors weren't locked! Good thing it's nice and slow. I could probably just run after them and take it back...

I'm in the process of installing a factory Scion Alarm in my xB. The instructions are great and it's truly plug and play. When programmed properly it will do the job.

I disagree that "when programmed properly it will do the job". I just got hit for about 3k and mine was armed the whole time...
