Default Scooters to compliment our xB's

Although we have two xB's, my wife and I have been thinking about a couple of scooters for fun and for the five minute ride to work. I came across these Yamahas and think they are a great compliment to the xB. What do you think?

Those are cute Arnie. Only things to worry about are you will be limited to when you can ride them unless you invest in rain gear. They will be fun to ride and you'll love the fuel savings allbeit small. I say go for it.

I'd try to find a Honda Ruckus. Those are sweet.

Heh, yeah. There's even an entire group of Ruckus owners who mod their scooters and talk about it on Internet forums... sound familiar?

It's a little more manly, if a scooter can be...

Hope you have some nice slow roads nearby! Max speed is 30-35 MPH? Only legally allowed on roads with speed limits under 45. I know you can do some mods to go a little faster but it's probably not legal. VA just passed a law about scooters- if it can go faster than 35, it's a motorcycle. So it needs to be registered as one and requires a motorcycle license.

Fuel savings was the idea behind my wife getting her new Rebel 250. It gets 100 mpg compared to only 50mpg on her Shadow 1100C. The Rebel tops out at 80 mph so it can still be ridden on the interstate if needbe.

I've seen a couple of Ruckus' (Rucki?) around town, they're kinda cool. My wife likes the retro-styled scooters, I'm just not quite sure what I want, but I do like the X-boxy shape. It would be mainly for fun little trips on decent weather days (in Oregon?). She used to ride an Aero 50 when she was younger and loved it. I'll keep ya posted, and thanks for the input.

As far as our route to work, it's a mile and a half, nothing over 30, mainly 25 through downtown Salem. No endorsement needed for 50 cc's. Of course there are always latte-sippin, makeup applying, cell phone jabbering SUV'ers to look out for.

It's looking like 2 of them are about 4 grand. Dealers around me are having a hard time stocking anything under 500 ccs right now. Plus you end up paying full retail price for em when you can find something.

I think they have to be registered everywhere because they're street legal like a Vespa. You have to get a registration and a plate and crap.

Not in North Carolina. The law says it's classified as a moped even though it can and will exceed 35mph. You sign a disclaimer at the dealership...no tags, no license, no insurance. However, if you get caught exceeding 30mph you get slapped with 4 tickets because you have broken the deal and it is now classified as a motorcycle where you are stopped. Modding any motorcycle or scooter is illegal but people do it anyway and scooters don't require inspection. So if you get stopped and the cop knows anything about what the engine is supposed to look like then you may get another 5th ticket. My Ruckus does 51mph at this point and with only minor bolt on mods and weight reduction.

I know that mileage seems to be the main consideration here but I think the Big Ruckus may compliment the xB the best...

I have seen some sick modded Ruckuses (?) out there, lots of modding potential.

If you're doing it for gas mileage... why not just save the $4k you'd spend on those for gas?

Like I said... if it is for the MILEAGE, why bother? If you want something else to just cruise around on, that's fine.

But so many people are thinking they'll just go buy something else more efficient to drive instead of their regular vehicle... and it's just a waste.
