UltraGauge tank size

I have 05 xb. I have been messing around with the tank size on my UltraGauge. I think the manual said the tank is like 11.9 gallons? I put it at that but then ran out of gas ha. Anybody use one and what did you use as your tank size? Thanks

I don't have a UltraGauge. 11.9 gal is the gas tank. Our odometer is calibrated for 15" stock tires only + don't know if that affects the UltraGauge gas/mileage readings if your running a larger size tire.

Good Luck on your Science project.

I have the Ultragauge and use 11.9 tank size with no problems.

Did you figure out what went wrong yet?

I think it has different size tires on it. Came like that when I got it. How would i calculate the difference though? lol

Put 11.9 in UltraGauge, but you will need to calibrate it.

There is directions on how to calibrate the device in the UG manual. If you don't calibrate, the gas consumption may be slightly off and thus, the tank level on the UG isn't accurate.

Keep in mind that the tank level reading is completely independent from the ACTUAL tank meter in the car. It is an approximation based on the data collected from the MAF sensor.

:relief:good write up ajcadoo

This is only part of it though.

You still have to re-calibrate after you change wheel size too. This will also affect your miles per gallon.

In short, what you have to do is start the distance calibration, then drive for at least 3 miles on a highway with calibrated mile markers. When you reach the 3rd mile marker, pull over at the sign then re-enter in the Ultragauge 3.00 miles. It will probably read way off when you pull over due to the larger wheels.

This is part of the initial setup and when you move from car to car with the UG.

so i set the tank size to 11.9. Went on the thru-way and drove 4 miles and calibrated it. So I should be all set? We will know if/when I run out of gas hah

There are two calculations. Miles and also gas consumption. Check the UG manual for instructions on how to do it.

yah, I have to wait until I fill up for the second calibration.

I had a hard time finally getting the fuel calibrated. The distance meter calibration was easy, and made the device alot more accurate. I love this product! (Owned for 3 months).

I just filled up today and put in the gallon's (10.919) into the fuel calibration. So hopefully I am all set....until I put my winter tires on and have to do it over haha

If you are trying to run it to the last drop make sure you fill it all the way. The pump will shut off at 10.9 gallons and you have to slow fill that last gallon to get all 11.9 in the tank. Typically I will see exactly 10 gallons used when the low gas light comes on if I filled it properly. That gives 1.9 gallons left.

StatuSCheckA 10-29-2012 03:15 PM

I need to find a pump that will slow fill. We got this nice new gas station but even if you barely pull the trigger fuel comes blazing out and activates the cut off before I can fill the tank.
I'm going to do a fresh calibration.

Maybe get a gas can and top it off with it, otherwise it's click and wait about 15 times!
