Default Xb redesign brings 25% sales volume decline

There were some heated discussions here about the wisdom of 'mainstremlining' of Scion Xb. I personally really dislike new model, but some love it. Well, the numbers speak:

From corporate January 2007 release:

Scion reported December sales of 10,326 units. The Scion xB urban utility vehicle recorded December sales of 3,330 units with year-end sales totaling 61,306, an increase of 13.8 percent over 2005. The tC sports coupe reported December sales of 4,996 units with year-end sales reaching 79,125 units, an increase of 6.7 percent over 2005.

From corporate January 20078release:

Scion reported December sales of 8,944 units. The Scion xB urban utility vehicle recorded December sales of 3,785 units with year-end sales totaling 45,834. The tC sports coupe reported December sales of 3,507 units with year-end sales reaching 63,852 units.

In other words: significant decline (25%!) in a raising brand. (I know - sales did not start until March, but these numbers include 2006 Xb which were snapped, and as well initial new model sales spike. It also includes the year end drop-off in sales od 2006 Xb in anticipation of new model.

The funny thing is that if they had marketed the 2nd gen as a corolla station wagon they probably would have sold a crapload of them.

Lets not overreact at our great sales forecasting abilities just yet...
ALL auto manufactures have seen year-over-year declines in sales volume in '07

I don't foresee the 2nd gens outselling the 1st gens...

When the 1st Gens were being sold, you couldn't find atleast 2 on a dealer lot! The 2nd Gens, plenty of them sitting on dealer lots. That pretty much explains it...

I see more gen 2s on the road than i do the gen 1s.
Maybe the 2nd gens are for driving and the firsts are for storage.

True True, hard to argue with that

Kewlbox: I see more gen 2's on the road than i do gen1's

I rarely see any 2nd gens on the road, its all first gens around here, when I do see them well one thing comes to mind, but in light of others on here that own 2nd gens, i will refrain from posting those thoughts lol

i dont see this as a surprise as the gen1 and gen2 are two completely different cars. you can't even compare them, IMO.

just for comparison sake, i see the gen1 xB as a high-mile "commuter" type car (in terms of engine size, price, options, etc) (like the toyota echo) and i see the gen 2 xb as a competitor to the element.

as an example, if toyota took the echo, gave it a larger engine, changed the looks drastically, etc, you would also get the same outcome - lower sales figures.

fwiw. oh, plus, i live in nyc, and i've seen only 2 gen2 xbs on the road. i see plenty of gen1 boxes however in manhattan and queens. i dont know about the other boroughs.
