xB's interior sound level...

Does anyone know xB's interior sound performance when crusing at high speed (Over 70mph)? Noisy or quiet? :?:

If I add a Cold Air Induction System, will the sound change? or just help to improve the power of the engine? is it worth to add it? :?

Besk_one 12-05-2003 10:42 PM

stock it's not too noisy, but the short gearing does contribuite to some extra noise at freeway speeds. with all the sound insulation they put in the xB for the sound system it's supprisingly quiet, just a tad more noise than my 2000 GTI VR6 had.

I found that after i got my intake, the car was noiser when i was on the gas hard, but at 70-80mph it was a bit quieter, probably because the motor doesn't have to work as hard to maintain the speeds.

i don't know about you guys, but when i ride on the freeway its freakin LOUD! Everytime i get a call on my cell, and i mute the music, the sound of the bumps and the wind hitting my winshield makes it hard for me to listen to the person i am talking to. Do i have a bad problem or do some have the same problem?

Cameron 12-05-2003 10:52 PM

In my opinion quiet at 70-80. The stereo bumpin at a measly 35 on the volume scale (on "hear") overtakes engine noise easily.

Um, but seriously it's just my opinion and you'll have yours. I typically test drive cars before I buy them. As for a CAI, I don't have one, but I want one.

mine is pretty quiet even on freeways...i hear occasional crosswind noise from the rear hatch door area..but overall it's pretty quiet. hell lot quieter than my '02 4runner although it's not quiet as a camry...

but for a $15,000 car..it's damn quiet.

so far, the rougher the pavement, the louder the interior noise is. I've had no problem hearing anyone while talking on my cell. You're not going to get it much quieter, but I'd try throwing some dynamat in the hatch. (not sure, it may be there already though.)

even with the intake, still quiet...

even with my intake and manifold back exhaust system, I can talk on my cell phone with no problems. :D

thats another good thing i like your exhaust....
remember last time i drive right next to you on 101 with all my windows rolled down?

i would have to agree and say that you will not find another 15,000 dollar car that is this quiet. this is someone who has owned or extensively tested a nissan sentra, ford focus, toyota corolla, mitsubishi lancer, and a doge neon. the scion had less road noise than all of them

tinybigrig 12-10-2003 07:10 AM

shiaot these are whisper queit compaired to my prerunner....that was noisy

as compared to my old volvo....it is very quiet....but then again....the volvo had an intake, and nothing but a resonator...no muffler.

are you having interior noise problems nhw ?

rufnex 03-30-2004 01:56 AM

road noise

I have excessive road noise. But I have 18" rims and 35 profile tires.
Gonna do the dynamat thing.

rolex87 03-30-2004 05:33 AM

Hopefully when my car's done at the stereo shop with its ( I think they said 104-105 ft.) of xtreme dynamat things should be quieter. It sure stops rattling when you bang on the panels, but this is my first car with sound deadening stuff in it. My previous Mercedes was quiet enough for me. I bought the xtreme dynamat because it marketed better sound and I saw that all these famous show cars had it in there.

Quiter than my new beetle was.
It was one of the things that sold me.
Was very surprised at the lack of wind noise in this box.

ComaJoe 03-31-2004 03:43 PM

I thought the noise level was very quiet compared to other vehicles I've been in.

for those of you with noisy tires... dynamat is the only way to go. 1 layer all the way around would make a huge difference... 2 layers and you'd be able to hear a pin drop while driving on the freeway. not to mention it makes the bass thump harder =D

$90.50 + $25 sh/h for 36sq ft

I needed two of those boxes for 2 layers in my little tacoma interior. I'm sure the scion would need a good 2-3 boxes for 1 layer... ouch =(

CAI will be noisy when you are on it or from a dig (i.e. spirirted driving) but don't sweat it at cruising speed.
You will be 'aight!

The Box

Put Dynamat on the 4 doors last weekend. MUCH less road noise. Gonna do the floor this wekend. Worth every penny.

superjeer 03-31-2004 05:12 PM

I found that mine got much more quiet when I switched tires. most of the noise at speed is tire noise. The goodyears are a medium quiet tire, I thnk. I got some falkin 512's and they are even quieter.

It could still use some sound killer in the far back area though.
