Replacing Side view Mirror..
 

Hey guys,
I'm new to this forum, and figured it would be a good way to get help with xB-related issues, etc, as well as contribute whatever I can as well.

I have a gray/silver 2013 xB 10 Series which I like a lot. I have done a few very minor modifications to it, like HID headlights, brighter LED interior map lights, dome light, and license plate light.
Other things I would like to do eventually are: bigger rims (would eventually ask for advice on that), window tint, at least.

Forgive this possibly dumb question:

My driver's side view mirror got all cracked up from a plow flinging ice this past winter, and I was wondering if anyone has any experience just replacing the mirror glass and not the entire housing apparatus and all.
There are YouTube videos of people using a hairdryer or heat gun and heating up the mirror so the glue loosens and they can pry the mirror off and just adhere a new one on.
The problem is that I cannot find any side view mirrors for 2013 xBs sold anywhere on the internet, only the entire housing apparatus + mirror.

Anyone done this before?

I ended up just adhering the new mirror directly over the old broken one, which was one of the methods described in the instructions that came with the mirror. The other option would have been to use a torch or heat gun to melt the glue holding the broken pieces of old mirror on and pry them off without touching them (they'd be very hot) and then adhering the new mirror.

This one seems like it's on there pretty good. Worst case scenario, it'll fall off one day, but the mirror was only like 17$.

Nice job. Can't even see the broken piece behind it.

IF the new mirror ever falls out, it'll probably take a few of the old pieces with it (making complete removal a little easier.) A tack lifter might come in handy to remove the hot, broken shards.
