Shark Fin Antenna install W/ PICS

just got a shark fin antenna from http://www.sharkfinantenna.com/

https://i571.photobucket.com/albums/...a/100_4094.jpg

It took about a week to get it.

Here is the install..

1. Remove stock "stick" antenna..

https://i571.photobucket.com/albums/...a/100_4113.jpg

2. Clean area around the base of antenna with rubbing alcohol and 3m prep solvent. I used Turtle Wax liquid clay bar and rubbing alcohol after..

https://i571.photobucket.com/albums/...a/100_4114.jpg

3. Attach the coiled cord to the antenna base using the supplied hardware. NOTE: use the washer that is supplied.

https://i571.photobucket.com/albums/...a/100_4115.jpg

4. bend the antenna base all the way forward for clearance.

https://i571.photobucket.com/albums/...a/100_4118.jpg

5. Place fin antenna into position on car, align it and use painter's tape to mark it's position on ALL sides..

https://i571.photobucket.com/albums/...a/100_4119.jpg

6.remove backing on adhesive foam tape and GENTLY place the antenna back into position.

7. Once you are happy with the alignment, press the antenna down and hold it firmly for 1 minute. (the adhesive is pressure sensitive)

https://i571.photobucket.com/albums/...a/100_4120.jpg

8. Remove tape, step back and enjoy your new Shark Fin Antenna..

awesome job! it makes it look that much cleaner.

ellisinseoul 04-21-2009 10:22 AM

i like too....but can't decide if it's worth it......

Yo_Br0ski 04-21-2009 10:31 AM

looks good

pyroman131 04-21-2009 02:39 PM

It definitely looks really cool and I have contemplated about integrating that with my Silver xB, but I don't want to spend $70 on it. If they offered a Scion Life discount like Mobilehid does, then I'd be a little bit more interested.

All-in-all, great DIY. It looks really clean and makes a VERY sleek look to the car.

Looks good! I personally like the stock antenna because it's so thin and less visible.

Iceman04503 04-21-2009 06:27 PM

Looks good but man that is a big antenna.

I think it was worth it.. received tons of compliments already... it changes the whole "attitude" of the car..

SHOCXB 04-22-2009 01:30 AM

Looks good but not sure if I want to spend the $$.

pyroman131 04-22-2009 04:50 AM

$40 and I'd buy it. $70 is a different story.

A-snell 04-22-2009 09:28 PM

I wasn't to upset spending the money for the Fin.. especially since it is color matched to the car..

pyroman131 04-22-2009 09:37 PM

True, I mean that is definitely one good thing about is getting a perfect match. I wouldn't consider buying something like this from eBay. I guess it bothers me because it's so small. If it was spoiler sized, or came with a $20 bill when shipped to you, then I'd buy it.

that is true...you take something to the bodyshop and they will charge you a minimum of 150!

A-snell 04-23-2009 03:22 AM

just received an email form Visual Garage inc. (The company that sells the antenna) They want to use the pics I sent them for their photo gallery. :) they should be up by mid May.

Any change in radio reception?

CIONIDE 04-23-2009 04:20 AM

In major metropolitan areas my reception is fine, but in suburban outlying areas the FM reception is not quite as good as the stock antenna.

DarkBox8 04-23-2009 04:45 AM

Just ordered one of these puppies! Can't wait to get it...well worth the money IMO

Rogue_Dragon 04-23-2009 05:14 AM

Looks just like I thought it would.....Awesome!!!!! I cant wait to see it in person at the bbq this weekend. Nice install write up.

layedoutxa 04-23-2009 07:23 AM

It looks good, I need the antenna element that's inside it, I want to tuck it under my headliner, since my antenna is gone completely.. Any idea where to get something flat or small like that?

A-snell 04-23-2009 09:54 PM

I am headed out to the "MIDDLE OF NOWHERE" on Friday. I'll know then what kind of reception I get. But around town the is no difference.

Thanks Rick!! I wanted to wait for you, Carl, or Kirby (maybe even all 3 of you) to be there when I installed it, but I was to excited. I couldn't wait...

elwaylite 04-25-2009 04:38 PM

Mine shipped out two days ago, so maybe itll arrive today :)

Your pics made me jump on buying it, now I just need to get the rear wing ordered.

A-snell 04-25-2009 08:33 PM

Well, I went out to my mother's house, "in the middle of nowhere," and the reception didn't diminish that much, not really even noticeable in most places. I'm lovin' the new antenna.

Vlad5969 04-26-2009 02:32 PM

Thanks for the update. Looks like I'll get my order in.

Rogue_Dragon 04-26-2009 09:18 PM
