vent visor removal
 

I bought my 2012 XB slightly used and unfortunately, it has some ugly vent/ window visors on it that fit inside the window channels but are also glued fast with that double sided sticky tape/foam. Is there a way to remove that stuff without damaging the window seals? I really wanted to go with the seamless style visors. Also, who ever had it before me also stuck some cheap convex mirrors on the side mirrors and put them in a bad spot on both mirrors. How can I removed them without damaging the factory mirror glass? They seem to be stuck fast with the same stuff the window visors use. Thanks.

Heat gun to the mirrors. Really low though.

/\ yup.. get a heat gun / blow dryer, and warm up the glued/taped parts and slowly pull those bad boys off. goo gone from ur local autozone or something to get rid of the residue

3M Adhesive & Wax remover works really well at getting rid of the adhesive residue also. It costs just over $3 for a 12oz. spray can. It also works really good at getting rid of 3M adhesive tape residue, for anybody who has ever tried to clean that alien stuff off painted surfaces.

Thanks guys, I wasn't quite sure what to use to get the stuff off without causing damage. I didn't even give a heat gun any thought. The vent visors I can live with for a little bit yet, but the convex mirrors have got to go.

I do think its a fairly "simple" act if you were to remove your vent visors without doing any unnecessary damage to your car. You should start first by looking for any DIY video out there like "weathertech vent visor installation". Simply do steps, in a reverse manner and there you have it.

I installed in-channel vent visors in my 2008 and am entirely satisfied with them. They required an adhesive pad on the rears to prevent them from sliding down when the window was lowered. As suggested, for removal, I would expect a heat gun to be adequate for removing the rear adhesive pads. Best wishes with your new ride :)!

by the way, replace those fixed convex cheap mirrors it with MAXI-VIEW mirrors...had it since '06...the best ! really..the best...you install it on the upper/inner corners of your side mirrors---and you CAN adjust its position to your liking!...not cheap at $15/ea when I bought it back then, but worth it so much in convenience!
