Question AEM Intake

Hey guys,

Sorry if I sound like a total noob. I'm barely getting into how cars work and I recently just purchased my new 2010 XB a couple of months ago.

Anyways, I got an offer from AEM to get a test intake installed into my Automatic Transmission Scion. I don't even know what an intake does, but everyone has told me to go for it. Should I be wary? Will this void the warranty? I know I should go to my dealer to get these questions answered but I'm at work right now so an immediate answer would help.

Here's the link to the intake http://www.aemintakes.com/instructions/AEM-21-577_inst.pdf

Any kind of information regarding that intake such as pricing info (how much does an AEM intake usually cost?), durability, reliability, and whatever else would be greatly appreciated. Sorry for the broad question.

Thanks in advance.

It's a cold air intake system that normally runs about $300. AEM makes a great product. If they're going to install it & give it to you for free, take it!

How did you luck into a free intake?

ive had the intake on my automatic for maybe 30K miles or year and a half and its good. there is a noticeable increase in engine noise as the stock intake baffles the intake noise. there is an increase in power mostly midrange.

i have lost mpg. i went from 28average to about 26. now with everything i have on the car im at about 23mpg.

sound clip if you need it. i dont know what a stock xb sounds like anymore. so i dont know if you can tell the difference.

The only way to get an accurate reading is to fill the tank up, run until you get to E. Then refill it again and divide the total miles ran by the total amount of gallons it took to refill the tank.

The only time I ever went 350 miles on a tank was on a trip to Florida last year. Normally I get 300 miles on 11-12 gals with 2-3 gals left in the 14 gal tank. Maybe if you had the AEM CAI you could go 360 miles thanks to all the R&D they did. LOL

If I do not drive like a moron (real hard lately with the TRD CAI and Borla), 28-29 is easy. Been seeing 26-27 since the mods

Sorry for the late response! I don't have any AEM connections but I'm working on it... I saw a listing on craigslist saying they needed a brand new 2010 XB to test out an intake on In Hawthorne Ca, which is where I live...

Anyways, I made the appt and the coordinator was awesome! He installed the intake, test drove it for 25-30 minutes and wallah!!! I now have an AEM Cold air intake . My first upgrade was completely free... I'm clueless as to do what to do next... I was thinking of going with the TRD exhaust and a much needed bike rack... I'll post a picture of it later!

is it normal that my odometer is off? It use to start a 0rpm but after getting that intake installed, it starts at 2rpm. I hope this makes sense. I don't know what to do.

odometer, speedometer or rev meter? odometer is how many miles you have on the car. and 2RPM? you mean 2000RPM on the rev meter? and start from what?

Yeah, the rev meter is at 1/2 when its parked. I attached a video of my drive to work today. Sorry for the loud music. I'm too busy for life nowadays.

looks normal to me. your engine idles at about 650-750 RPMs when warm.
