RPM at 60 and 80 MPH with 5 speed
My biggest comlaint about the Xb original is that at 80 MPH with stock tires and a 5 speed, the RPM's are at like 4000!!!
Can someone clue me in as to the numbers on the new Xb with a stick?
I realize that the 1.5 need more RPM's (HP) to overcome the air resistance at those speeds. My wifes Honda EX V6 with an auto is at like 2600RPM's at 80!

Since it's the same engine as tC, I assume it's the same manual trans and numbers would be the identical. So what's that? Car and Driver says 21.6 MPH per 1,000 RPMs in 5th gear for a tC. So 2,700 RPM @ 60 MPH, 3,700 RPM @ 80?

The xB actually uses a little bit taller tire than the tC, and that has an effect.
I come to ~2750 (tC close to 2800) at 60mph and about 3660 at 80 mph.
I was under the impression that the old xB ran at something like 4500+ at 80 mph?

The figures for the Original xBs have been posted and discussed many times:
AUTOMATIC:
2560 RPM @ 60 MPH
2990 RPM @ 70 MPH
3410 RPM @ 80 MPH
MANUAL:
3070 RPM @ 60 MPH
3580 RPM @ 70 MPH
4090 RPM @ 80 MPH
Checking the dealer booklet for the new xB2, I get the following:
Tire size: 205/55R16
Final drive ratio: 4.235M / 2.74A
Top gear ratio: 0.731M / 1.020A
and that means:
835 * 4.235 * 0.731 = 2585 RPM at 60 MPH manual
and
835 * 2.74 * 1.020 = 2334 RPM at 60 MPH automatic
(rev per mile) * (final ratio) * (top gear ratio) = (engine RPM at 60MPH)
So, for the manual transmission xB2:
2585 RPM @ 60 MPH
3015 RPM @ 70 MPH
3445 RPM @ 80 MPH
plus or minus 10 RPM.
For the automatic transmission xB2:
2335 RPM @ 60 MPH
2725 RPM @ 70 MPH
3115 RPM @ 80 MPH
plus or minus 10 RPM.

Thanks for all the replies....
I have been busy lately and unable to repond to this thread.
I am concerned about the noise mostly. At 80Mph it seems like I'm in a blender!!!
The new Xb seems to be about 650RPM's lower!!!!
That should make for a really quite drive.
