Default BEST Spark PLUGS for higher gas mileage for 08-09 xB?

Hello-Somewhere in the forum an Op recommended an NGK or DENSO spark plug for my 2008 and 2009 xB that would help boost my poor gas mileage but I can't determine what plug type to which he referred.

Can anyone give me a plug part number that will help increase my xB gas mileage. I'm running original factory plugs now that came with the car when we bought them new and the xB's we own have 85K miles each and I want to replace the plugs.

Thanks a bunch guys!

The NGK Iridium plugs are a good replacement, model number is BKR6EIX-11. It's not that the plug will give you better mileage, it's just at 85K miles your stock plugs are most likely worn and not working as well as they would new. Don't expect much change in mpg from just changing plugs.

Default Thank you Greg S.

Thank you Greg and we are neighbors--I live in Northridge.

I'm not sure what else I can do to increase the gas mileage on my 2008 and 2009 xB-I drive under 65 mph as much as possible, I inflate our tires to 36 PSI, and I avoid street traffic when I can but our avg. mileage is a low 23-24 mpg which is within the EPA published range yet my 2003 Camry LE returned 27-30 mpg regardless of driving conditions-I attribute the lower gas mileage on the xB to a higher engine rpm which the Camry (same engine as the xB) did not turn--boy do I miss the Camry!

Also, Toyota mailed an "enhancement" notice to us for both our xB's because we burn one quart of engine oil after 3500 miles-Toyota was under threat for a class action lawsuit because one of their suppliers sold Toyota faulty piston and ring assemblies that resulted in engine oil consumption--not what I ever expected from Toyota-so we own compromised cars.

That same 2003 Camry LE returned 34.5 mpg on a trip across California in 2005 averaging almost 90 mph on that trip! I miss that car and am sad to no longer own it.

Any suggestions to increase gas mileage would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks once again Greg.

What is the difference between the BKR6EIX-11 spark plugs with the 4-digit designations like:
3764
6988
5464
4589

I'm ordering new plugs from Amazon and see these 4-digit codes after the plug model.

Thank you.

No idea what the different designations mean for the plugs. As for the mileage it has to do with the gearing of the transmission and the fact that the xB is basically a brick on wheels, not very aerodynamic. Keeping the RPMs under 2K as much as possible helps a lot but it's very hard to do at freeway speeds.

I have a CAI and 4-1 header and I average around 22-23 mpg. The best mileage I ever got was on a road trip to California. I got 30-31 mpg @ an average of 95 mph. I never went below 90 mph and would go as high as 110 mph.

I'm not sure if it was do to the header or not, but I was pretty surprised. I'm getting ready to head to Cali again in a couple weeks, and I expect to get much lower mileage. Two small kids now, so the speed stays down to normal numbers.

Do I need to gap the new plugs? They come as .044 gap I believe. Thanks.

Best MPG I ever got on my 2009 Xb was 27.5 averaging 70 MPH using cruise control on level highway pavement in October in SoCal, using 91 Octane Chevron fuel (I avoid using any gas with ethanol as it may corrode valves and/or reduce gas mileage).

My next car probably wont be a Toyota for reasons mentioned above.

You should be fine with the stock gap. Unless the plugs have been dropped on the tip they come pre-gapped any more. I average 22 mpg but I have 20" wheels, I/H/E, a fair amount of weight in the rear, drive almost exclusively in city traffic, and a heavy right foot.

When I was experimenting with eco-mods the best I ever got was 35.7 mpg, 396 miles on one tank. At the time I had a NST crank pulley and a Strup exhaust. I made an upper grill block and aero hubcaps.
