Default Stripped oil drain threads

Hi all, changing oil on my wife's 2012 xB but I find the plug spinning instead of tightening. Removing the plug I find a heli-coil not doing its job. The dealer is the only place this cars oil had been changed besides my garage. I always use a torque wrench set at 28 ft lbs to tighten that plug. It wasn't me that needed to fix this previously which leaves the dealer as the ones that stripped out this hole and didn't bother mentioning it to anyone. I tried tapping threads one size bigger but there just isn't enough material left on the oil pan to make decent threads.
So, my question is this. Has anyone tried to remove the oil pan with the engine in place? If so, how'd it go and could you give some pointers on getting it done?
