Default Engine Idle RPMs in neutral (5-speed)?

Just curious as to what the idle RPMs should be. Mine run at about 600 after a few seconds of idle. Makes it real tough to engage the clutch on a hill without stalling.

Shouldn't it be up around 750-1000?

should be about 600-800 rpms. like the tc.

yah, mine bounces around some times its 600 and other times its a little higher.

OK, so this begs the question, is 600 too low to get going out o' first? Do others have a problem on hills? Or is it just me I've been driving stick for close to 30 years, and never had this much trouble with starting out.

And yes, it will be addressed at the dealer, on Thursday

you don't get out of first at idle, you gotta give it alittle gas, your probably not used to the throttle delay from the drive by wire system, where there is a small delay between hitting the gas, and the engine revving up.

i "did" have some problem starting out.
but i learned the difference with this car and changed how i drive.
it just seems that different cars are set up different. i also have a S-10 with a 5 speed and it drives very different then my xB

Well, that certainly explains a LOT
Thank you.

I am getting better. When I had the car in for service I had them check the shifting, and was told there are no problems. (The service entailed tightening up the parking brake cable.. the handle was way too loose)

As of today, I have almost 600 miles on it.. so, it's only got to get better, eh? I made it through yesterday AND today without stalling even once!

my left leg has learned where the clutch engages, I rev till about 1200 RPM before i fully let out the clutch, hills are easy now..

OK, maybe this is one of those dumb questions, but WHY is there a small delay in throttle response, and is it something (physical/mechanical or electrical or programming)that can be adjusted to make it qiucker?

i adjusted my throttle cable, i took about 1" of slack out of it.
right were the cable conects to the theottle body is the ajustment settings.

OK. Could you maybe post a pic of said throttle cable location? I took a look under there (in the dark, so maybe that's why I can't find it).

Mine idles around 600 or so.... my problem with getting the car moving in first gear may have something to do with the delay, but I do not notice that. What I do notice is that I just seems to touch the gas pedel with my size 14EEE flippers and the idle bounces right up to over 2000 rpm many times when I only reallyt want around 1200 rpms! :D

Watch it - you guys are talking Gen 1 and Gen 2 xBs - the Gen 1 xB was cable the Gen 2 xB is TBWire. . . this is when you grab the parking brake to keep from rolling backwards. You can try cranking up the heater fan and see if the idle comes up.
