Yeah, that's called an Italian tuneup. I wish I could be the one to tell you that would work but a quart every 250 miles suggests not. Unless of course you have a considerable leak to add to any potential consumption. Many leaks can be fixed.

Unfortunately, you not only have burnt carbon (and possibly sludge) in your engine, Toyota confessed some of their parts are flawed which contribute to consumption. You have several options at this point but none jump out as practical, unless you want to keep it. It's a good looking car.

Crank no start, I think it’s my computer.
05 scion tc 2.4l , new valve cover , new ignition coils , spark plugs , cold Air intake , new battery , new clutch , new fuel pump , it ran and drove kinda for couple days started acting like it was dying cause of my battery that was the symptoms I thought, due to having to jump start it and all that , I would go out try and start it it’s be dead wait go back out an try it hour or so later it started up, then I went to a drive threw , was pulling out an it backfired and died an after redoing everything again an checking grounds an all that it just cranks won’t start and no spark with the coil and spark plug checked Them now the battery is dead from working on it and cranking it over.

My 2012 didn’t use a drop of oil @107k but I recently sold it.

Soaking the pistons with Berryman’s fuel system cleaner made a huge difference in oil consumption with my 2009.

My 2008, which just rolled over 201K, uses about 1-quart after 3000-4000 miles. I switched to synthetic many, many years ago and switched to 10W30 "High Mileage" version once I hit 100K. If I use 5W20, it "burns" it quicker. I remember when they first sent out the letters about a "known problem" with oil consumption and told me I needed to go through a "confirmation process" to determine if I was eligible for the free repairs to address the "problem". The first thing they would do was change the oil and then tape/lock everything shut and told me to come back in 1000 miles. Of course there wasn't any oil consumption. I kept telling the dealer that the "oil consumption" only starts after the oil is dirty and so many miles on the oil but they wouldn't listen. Even after they had me come back for a second round of testing I still didn't "qualify". So I buy my synthetic at Costco for ~$4/quart and now that I work from home full-time and only drive ~5000 miles a year, it is a cheap "solution" to this problem.

In the YouTube video above (posted in March 2023) about supposed Toyota changes to the piston/rings to address the oil consumption issue of the 2.4l engine, the author has another video (
) that talks about switching to 00W20 weight synthetic oil to help clean the rings to reduce oil consumption vs moving to heavier weight like I did. Has anyone here tried switching to 00W20?

A second Berryman’s piston soak totally stopped mine from burning oil. Completely. I never would have believed it if I hadn’t done it myself.

Thank you for the reply. I saw the discussion about Berryman's and it's not something I can do or want to pay someone to do.
