New member xB 2011 + Maint. Question

Hello everyone!

After picking up a 2011 and doing a fair amount of research, I figured it would be a good idea for me to join a site of enthusiast who may have a better idea of how to dig deep into the performance and technical aspects of the xB. So glad to finally be part of the group. Hailing from Metro Detroit here.

That said, previous to my 2011, I had a 2008 and man-oh-man was that a wonderful ride! One of the best parts of it was the fact that I could get a range of 280-310 miles to the tank at 170,000 miles traveled. It had a sunroof, spoked Scion wheels, and (given) a different grill in the front.
Having now switched over to the 2011, and at almost 100,000 miles traveled, the range for this xB is strangely only has a range of 250 or so miles to the tank. No sun roof, hubcap wheels, smaller grill. I'm not exactly one to tinker with car, but now I feel like for me to make this car last, I need to know as much as I can.

So my question is what are some things I can do to get my 2011 to get better gas mileage so I can get the range up to +300?

Edit: Also, what would be some basic maintenance that I should do since it's going to hit 100k miles?

The drivetrain should be there same as your 08. Are you running different oil? Also check the spark plugs and make sure those are good.

spark plugs, air filter, change accessory belt and belt tensioner, waterpump (recommended) and coolant flush, check condition of motor mounts, use full synthetic oil (imo) with a good quality oil filter, it should run really smooth after those maintainence items

Do not use ethanol treated gas.

Before changing any parts I'd clean throttle body, air idle control valve and MAF sensor. MPG estimates by the gallon might be more accurate than by the tank.

Have you tried resetting the computer so it can learn your driving habits? Previous owner may have been more aggressive in their driving habits. Disconnect the battery for about 2 minutes should do the trick. Beware, your radio presets will be lost. The engine may stumble some till it starts relearning driving habits.
