TRD Cold Air Intake MPG and HP increase?

Does any one know if the Cold Air Intake will increase MPG or how much of a horse power increase it will have. I am getting a new Super White one next week.

Nothing noticeable. People say you only see hp increase on the Dyno. The Intake is far more effective than the exhaust, the exhaust just adds a nice deep aggressive note to it.
But the Intake is great, I love that whistling noise as i press and let off the gas. it really works best when accelerating at higher speeds.

As for better Mpg, it doesn't seem to work that way because as the Intake sucks in more, colder, denser air, the MAF reads it and adds more fuel to maintain a healthy A/F ratio.
So even as you suck more air and push out exhaust more efficiently, you won't see an increase in Mpg. But a nice improvement in sound and some bump in power. but don't get the TRD exhaust.
If I could do it all again, I would get something like Precision Muffler, ZPI full Catback exhaust, or Dezod Motorsports N/A exhaust.

Are they hard to install?

draxcaliber 05-15-2007 02:47 AM

to put in exhaust, all you have to do is jack up the rear end, pull off the stock, and bolt up the new one, the intake, you have to take out the stock intake housing, and usually get it into the inner fender wall next to the engine, you might have to take off the tire and the inner fender lining to get it to fit. but alot of people do it themselves.

So no real power... that stinks... Is it oiled or dry filter?

Exhaust no power increase? that stinks

How's the drone on the exhaust?

since the car has been literally out for a week, I doubt anyone really knows the answer to these questions. Maybe you should be the guinea pig and post for everyone elses benefit :)

XBFred 05-17-2007 03:30 PM

Hey, I am willing to be the guinea pig. I am totally willing to help others out.

I think the best way to handle this is for 80 people to paypal me $5. I will buy the exhaust and intake and write a very thorough review :eyebrow:

The TRD CAI for the xB2 is a high quality item that comes around from the back of the engine, is about 3 feet long, chromed, with a lot of sections and bends and rubber gaskets at the connections, and has a box to hold its air filter. No doubt some after-market outfit can put together a cheaper CAI.

XBMutha 06-09-2007 02:56 PM

A chromed metal pipe, 3 feet long? Is it aluminum? That thing can sure absorb alot of heat from the engine bay. Thats like running cold air through a heater. I am sure it looks pretty though.

Maybe 3 feet, if straightened out. It convoluted, with twists and turns to get from behind the engine where the intake manifold is, around the end of the engine, to the front and downward, to a special box for its air cleaner.
I doubt that it is chromed aluminum. Why would or should it be, and can aluminum even be chromed?

XBFred 06-16-2007 08:30 PM

well, I will be getting the first if not one of the first K&N CAI's I had mine in for R&D a few weeks ago and am just waiting for the production

XBMutha 06-16-2007 11:35 PM

They usually are made of polished aluminum. Aluminum transfers alot of heat. More than likely alot of the heat from the engine will get transfered into the intake charge.

Shop around. My dealer quoted me $329 for the TRD CAI but being cheap I'm modding an $80 tC CAI instead.
