xB Failed Consumption Test

xB Failed Consumption Test
My 2010 xB just failed the oil consumption test. The dealer is ordering parts. They recommended that I do the following parts also at a lower hour labor rate since they will have the engine apart.
I can do all or some of their recommended parts. Any thought on these?
Timing chain
timing chain tensioner
8 countershaft bearings
2 camshaft bearings
oil pump

Absolutely non of those should need replacing on your engine unless you are well over 150,000 or they have wear on them due to oil starvation. Did they inspect them and show you the wear or are they just recommending it? BTW the timing chains have no scheduled replacement mileage and should be good for the life of the car. What mileage do you have on the car?

Thanks for the reply. They are recommending thee parts for replacement. The car has 142,000 miles on it.

Pretty sure the camshaft bearings are a matched set with the cylinder head - so they are not replaceable - without replacing the entire cylinder head.
My recommendation - PASS

I just had my car serviced and I passed on all the recommendation they offer. If any of the bottom end bearings are bad they will fix it. They replaced a few hoses on my car too.
That being said it was not all pretty. My A/C hose was left dangling on the side, not clip into the brackets. My hood was not properly reattach or adjusted. It keeps on popping open (first latch) at speeds. I had to readjust it myself.
Also I'm getting bad gas mileage. Haven't figure out what's wrong with that yet. I use to get 26-28 mpg, Now I'm getting 18-24mpg. My fuel economy is calculated by hand (miles/gas to fill up full tank). But even the on board computer says I'm at 22mpg average vs 28 mpg average from before the engine rebuilt.

hence why you should not be having dealership mechanics rebuilding your engine...they are not trained to rebuild engines, nor do most of them have the experience to do so....Id pass on the engine rebuild and take some minor oil consumption any day of the week...

Has the fuel burn rate improved at all??
