Default More FIC weirdness...

Today my FIC apparently stopped working for no known reason. I was monitoring fuel trims and suddenly they shot from their usual -5% to -30%. I'm subtracting 25% with the FIC for the larger 440cc injectors. I also got a P0172 code for rich AFR. I shut the engine off, re-started and AFRs were 25% lean until the ECU could adjust to the now-working FIC trims. What a buggy POS! I hate piggy-hacks!

FWIW, I've also noticed that although the FIC shows TPS with ign on, it only shows 0 when the engine is running.

I think I may have a bad unit but AEM told me that they either work 100% or not at all. At least that was their story when I asked about sending it to them for testing.

Have you ever seen a bad FIC? P-Tuning told me that they've had to send several of them back for hard starting and other issues and that AEM never returns the same unit. They also said that the replacement units don't have the same problems. Maybe I just need to insist that they test it.

Okay, I just confirmed that my LTFT has just recently gone from -5% avg to -30% avg. I have the FIC pulling 25% fuel for the 440cc injectors and I confirmed that the FIC has 12v power and all connections are good. My fuel trims look pretty much the same as they did without the FIC installed. It appears as though the FIC injector controller circuitry may have failed.

Fred, where is your FIC located? Is it in the cab? Anyways i have my located under the passenger side dash and well i didn't do as good as a job with the firewall as i should have. i didn't use the best grommets and my wire somehow got jacked up. So anyways i had to recheck and fix my wiring because i was getting a cylinder 4 misfire. So maybe its something as simple as rechecking the wiring.

The MAP sensor on mine just died two days ago. Otherwise, it's working perfect. Got a new one on my door step today though

The only thing I can think of, other than the FIC failing, is that somehow it got into dual calibration mode and is running zeroed maps. However when I open up the FIC maps they are the correct ones. Right now the FIC has power but is not altering the MAF signal or the fuel inj pulses. I think the O2 map is working but I'll check tomorrow to be sure.

I haven't decided yet whether to try a new FIC or something else. I might just try the Dezod APR-X1 next. What's another $2000 into the bottomless pit?

I'm not too worried about it if mine happens to act up on me.

I sincerely hope you don't have any problems with your FIC. I'm finished with it and moving on to something better.

What do you plan on going with?
Please don't go with any GReddy products.

Dezod APR-X1. It ain't cheap but neither is the $300 FIC by the time you add a $500 Boomslang PnP harness, a $150 ocilloscope to troubleshoot it's crk/cam sensor problems, $50 in potentiometers, resistors, etc, $550 for a P-Tuning tune and another $400 for a re-tune every time you change something. Not to mention the hundreds of hours wasted and several days of missed work because of FIC problems.

I'm glad it works so well for some people but it's been one headache after another for me and I'm done with it. I'm just glad I didn't spend the $550 for a P-Tuning tune/re-tune only to have the FIC crap out like mine just did. I confirmed today that although everything appears to be working fine, the FIC is no longer modifying my injector pulse duration. I even removed it and reflashed the firmware but something internal is fried.

Edit: The FIC started working again. After resetting the ECU and re-flashing the FIC, it's working again. Fuel trims are back where they were and the car runs good again. I have no idea what happened. I didn't find any wiring problems. <shrug>
