2013 head unit in XB mode...?
Hi everyone,
I recall the radio on my 2006 xb had settings where you can adjust and set the radio to the exact car that you have - XB, XD OR TC.
I just bought a 2013 xb and i'm wondering if there is the same setting on this head unit? this is a stock picture of it.

so does this newer head unit also have a setting where you can set it to the exact model car that you have? i am fine tuning the stock sound system and want to make sure this is set properly before i proceed.
Thanks in advance everyone,
- mtd

thank you guys for the replies. i will try out using the list button as you described.
the car is new but i simply want to make sure it's on the right setting. i'm going this weekend to get a sub and amp installed so i want to make sure we're tuning with the right setting in place.

^^ in all honesty, i tried tweaking the sound system during the first couple of days i had the car and i wasn't really impressed.... the stock setup that came on the 2006 xb was perfect - all i did was add a $400 sub+amp and i was a happy camper. with that setup, i didn't once consider upgrading it or anything..... i was more than happy with it and it was perfect on road trips coupled with the tablet laptop i used for music/movies.
i'm meeting my sound guy this upcoming saturday to install a setup similar to what i had - sub in a ported box + an amp. nothing crazy, nothing over the top, maybe $500-$600 worth of equipment and setup... i hope that will help.

i looked into them, watched their install videos on youtube but they are literally $1,000+ out of my price range. I want to spend between $400-$600 on the amp + sub only and keep the stock speakers. the other $ im spending on other mods.
the main mod i'm saving my money for is a 128gb ipad mini. they have not released this yet and the currently model only goes to 64gb. i want this because i have already made a mini pad mount in the car. i'd much rather spend my $ on that and have my entire media library with me in the car (tons of movies + 70gb of music)... i have a 16gb ipad mini i plan to use in the car for the time being.

Hey man,
I am really glad you brought this up! I totally forgot about that option from my 04.
With the key on, but radio off. Push and hold your volume ****. This brings up the menu for car type, sub output, and opening message. You can change the text it displays when it starts up.
Mine was set to tC, and now that it is in xB it sounds MUCH better! I couldnt get the balance right before, and I had no mid, and waaaay too much treble. No it sounds the way it should!
Thanks for the reminder, and hope my instructions help!!

dcmcelreath - thank you so much for the heads up. i actually had the same problem you had on your 04 xb on my 06 xb. i got the car and the audio just sounded funny. I then found the instructions on this forum and realized that my radio had been set to xA instead of xB. after changing it, everything was fine!
Thanks again for the clear instructions. I'll try this out this weekend when i get to take my ride out for a spin =P
xb_toaster, NO WORRIES!

cool... i didn't notice there was no sound coming from the back speaker but in my case, in tc mode, it sounded very tinny and had wayyyyy too much treble - even when i set the treble to -1. now with the treble at 0 and the bass at 3 or 4, it's perfect.
also, although my crappy benz had the bluetooth/streaming capability, i never really used it. i had heard that streaming music (mp3s in this case) over bluetooth causes a degradation in quality so tomorrow, when im getting my sub installed, i want to see if that's the case. i'm going to play some mp3s both via bluetooth plus via the AUX cable and hear what the difference is if any. i was streaming stuff last night and didn't think the quality was bad at all...

Mine was set to tC also! You would think the dealerships would set the radios when they are getting the car ready?
Yeah, initially I had mine faded to the rear -2 so it would calm the tin can sound down a bit. Now I can have it at a normal setting, and it sounds proper!
I know in my Tacoma when I would stream audio via bluetooth it definitely degraded the sound quality. I guess its just the nature of the beast?

"You would think the dealerships would set the radios when they are getting the car ready?" -- very true but surprisingly, many scion dealers and sales staff have no clue what the f they're talking about.
a couple of case in points: i called a dealer in cali in march and asked about the 2013 release series to which he replied "release series...? what's that?" and then after i gave him a couple of hints, he still had no clue and told me he would ask his manager and get back to me. and this was a scion specialist, not a general toyota sales person.
also, the dealer i bought my first xb from, in march, told me he didn't know when the 2013s were coming out... and i was the one that posted about the 2013s landing at dealerships in february! this was also a 'scion specialist.'
and again, at that same dealer, i asked him how much it would cost to add the front tower brace and rear strut bar to a 2013 xb and he said we can't do that at the dealership - you should order a car from the factory through us with this installed. SERIOUSLY? scion is all about options at the dealership bc the markups are huge and they can't install a couple of simple options like that? hah!
so, yeah, i think anyone that visits this forum probably has a better idea of the models than a lot of the dealers do. lol and this is why our radios are set to tc by default.

yeah it was weird, every time I had I had people in the back they said they heard nothing from the speakers. I faded them to the rear and could only hear a sound with the volume way up. On xB mode it sounds good now. I mentioned to my dealer about this yesterday and was told the radios are installed at the dealership during check in. They had no idea about that setting in there. The salesman at my local dealer basically does all the prep, which in my opinion is weird. I worked at a few dealerships and they all had prep people. I know way more about the Scions than anyone there.
