Changing stock interior map lights to LED

I'm interested in changing the stock interior map lights to some bright (hyper) white LED lights. Can anyone help me identify what the appropriate type of replacement lights would be and/or recommend a reputable supplier for these lights? I've included pics and specs of the stock bulbs below.

Toshiba
12V8W B73
Size (approx): 28mm or 1.125"

They are size 194
There are many different type of LED bulb you find from dim to crazy bright....

can you get the square led arrays in there? How do you seperate the lens from the housing? Also was this just a yank down from the ceiling? I don't have my xb yet, but there have been previous posts about how this was hard to get down?

SquallLHeart 06-25-2007 07:02 AM

yank, twist, remove the bulb, replace.

the universal led arrays you speak of should come with different adapters. i'm sure there are ways to make it fit.

What I meant was I assumed the clear frosted lense came apart to do the bulb change. Maybe I don't have a feeling for the size of the LED arrays, but I thought they would be bigger than that round twist lock housing for these bulbs, was trying to figure out how you get the LED array in there. :-)

The easiest way to get the dome light unit out is to use a thin flat screwdriver (or similar) and push the two metal clasps at the top or bottom of my first picture. The whole unit should come out pretty easily after this.

Just an update for those checking this out. You can change these bulbs easier by just popping out the clear covers that you push in and out instead of pulling out the whole housing.

The map lights are 194's and the dome light is a 31mm festoon.

The rear trunk light is a 28mm and good luck finding those. You can bend the tabs back and fit a 30/31mm one in there and it will work fine.

I purchased a 25-LED array for the map lights, these are awesome...super bright. I bought white and decided to go with blue, so I ordered a second set. If anyone wants a set of these for their xb - I have an extra set. PM me.

I got one of these to put in my ome light, but it was to big to fit in the dome. after reading this I decided to go try it myself. It worked great and looks sweet. I can't wait to get the other one installed now. Now I just need to ind a solution that fits in the dome.

Sorry for bringing this up again, but I am LED impaired. I bought some super white LED's (194, 5 bulb) for my map lights. They work fine. However, I want to change to blues, and I would like them a bit brighter. I also want to change my dome light to blue as well. Now, my questions:

1. What is the biggest LED array that will fit in the map lights? Can I go with a 10 led array in a 194, or will that be to big? Is there an alternative to a 194 bulb that I should be using (without having to hard wire, since I'm an idiot when it comes to electrical)?

2. I see that some of you have used a 30mm festoon bulb for your dome, and some have gone with a 25 LED array. I would like to do the 25 LED array since it would be brighter. Can you provide me with a link to exactly what I want to buy?

LED's are new to me, and I don't want to waste money on something that isn't going to fit or I'm not going to be able to install (i.e. having to hard wire). I REALLY appreciate the help!
