If your illuminated sill guards don't turn on reliably ...
My sill guards illuminated perfectly for several months, and then the passenger side quit working. I tied to identify the problem a couple times and finally discovered a T-Tap at the base of the right A-pillar wasn't making reliable contact, though it did appear to be closed properly. After compressing it especially hard with a pair of pliers, normal illumination is restored .
(My specific problem was the brown wire connection to the grounding door switch, but potentially the same problem could occur with the pink wire connection to +12V.)

SO, instead of assigning blame -- what I'm doing is alerting others to what could cause that problem if they encounter it.
By the way, thanks so much for your insightful commentary !

At first I thought it must be the sill itself since I'm pretty careful with wiring. Next best guess was the sill harness connector when I discovered (second outing) that moving it or the connected wires could cause illumination on/off. I was about ready to replace it with a couple quick disconnects, when I noticed the on/off behavior seemed to particularly relate to motions of the brown wire (third outing.) I originally used pliers to close the T-Tap and it looked perfectly fine, but when I pressed it hard between thumb and forefinger, sure enough, the sill illuminated.
Hopefully it'll last this time, but if not, at least I know where to look !
PS. I used solder on my 1990 Eclipse keyless entry and aftermarket HU installations, but since the xB aftermarket kits go with with clamp-on electrical connections, I flew with it.
