Dvd Headrest Problem(s)
I purchased the factory installed dvd headrest system when I purchased my 08 Scion XB in December of 2007. I've used the passenger side rear dvd unit about 3 dozen times since purchase and already had the unit replaced as it just stopped working properly in March of this year. Now that same unit does not want to play certain dvds (original store bought dvds without any damage) for no apparent reason. I contacted Scion and basically told them I don't have the confidence that the units will work properly once the warranty period is over and I want Toyota/Scion to buy back the units. I've tried searching online to see if other folks are having issues with their factory installed dvd system but not much luck. I imagine this option might not be a popular one as it is pricey and I bascially bought it since I have a 5 year old little girl. So I ask, is there anyone else having issues with their Scion dvd headrest sytem ? Any testimonials would be appreciated as I do have an open case with Scion and I figure if I'm having problems there just might be other Scion owners having issues that I am not aware of.
Yes, I bought mine around the same time for my little girl as well. One side has already been replaced because it loved to eat my discs and never give them back. After being replaced, the new one still has the same bad habit as the faulty one. We haven't used the headrests in a while, so I'm not sure if they're working 100% or not. I totally agree with you though... I totally wish I went aftermarket on the headrests.
I'm kinda glad I'm not the only one having trouble, although this is company I'd rather not keep. I have to take my car in next month for service and will have the dealer check the unit then. Moreover, now my factory installed Alpine sytem isn't working right -I can't make the unit tilt nor will it eject my Coldplay cd. I will push for Toyota to take/buy back the dvd headrest units and will keep this forum posted as to what happens. Thanks for the response...ride smooth!!
bought the head units units with teh car in Novemebr 07 2007. My kids are bit older 10 and 12 - they respect electronics and have a host of stuff in the house they care for.
The passenger unit literally sperated at teh case seam - I had to tape it back together and the driver side unit would not maintain a buffer; the video kept pausing at random intervals and would play for no longer than a few moments.
Dealer is replaing the driver unit - I suppose I might agree with them on passenger side could be user abuse. Either way these units are NOT factory OEM grade. My Chrysler had waaay better interior electronics than Scion.

Thanks for sharing..I can say my 5 year old daughter does NOT operate the unit, I do by way of the remote, so at least in my case, can say unit malfunction can't be attributed to operator abuse. I'm not even sure if the other unit works right (driver side) because it has only been used twice in 19 months. Concerned also as I read almost on a weekly basis how Toyota Corp and new chairman admit quality issues in their more recent vehicles...makes you wonder???
