Headrest DVD problem....no sound...
 

I just bought an 08 xB with the headrest DVD's, and I was promised that the system would play through the stock audio system in the car. But when I try to play a movie for my kid in the back, the sound never comes out of the stereo???

From the instructions, you just have to switch the headunit to AUX mode, but when the movie is playing, and I hit the AUX button, nothing happens.

If I put the mini plug in the AUX input, the headunit will change to the AUX mode, but once I pull out the plug. the headunit switches back to FM and im done...

Did the dealer mess something up with the setup, or am I hosed and the only way to listen to the headrest DVD's is through the headphones??

I only ask because my kid won't wear the headphones and if he can't hear the movie, he has a meltdown....doh...

looking at the install guide, the aux may only work if you're playing the dvd in the passenger side dvd. if that dosent work, take it back.



8. In-Process Functional Test

(d) Turn ignition key to ACC position.
(e) Press the power button on each of the
Headrest DVD players. Verify the
backlighting illuminates and the power
switch illuminates bright red.
(f) Open each of the screen assemblies and
insert a DVD into each of the Headrest
DVD players. Verify that the Headrest
DVD players accept the discs.
(g) Press the play button on the Headrest
DVD players. Verify that the DVD video
is displayed on each of the LCD monitors.
(h) Install the two AAA batteries in the
remote control.
(i) Install the two AAA batteries in the
wireless headphones.
NOTE: On the wireless headphones, the
A-B switch allows the user to select the
audio from either the M1 (Passenger Side,
CH A) or the M2 (Drivers Side, CH B).
When sitting in front of the M1 screen,
use the CH A switch setting. When sitting
in front of the M2 screen, use the CH B
switch setting.
(j) Using the test wireless headphones, verify
that audio from each of the DVD players
can be heard through the headphones.
(k) Press the power button on the head unit and
verify that the radio turns on.
(l) Press the AUX button on the head unit and
verify that the audio is heard from the DVD
playing in the M1 Headrest DVD
(Passenger Side).

I tried it and it does everything EXCEPT play through the factory stereo..

Looks like its going back to the dealer on Monday....

I am kind of disappointed in Elmhurst Scion because of this...

Has anyone had any issues with them?

I thought John was a great salesman, I don't know who does the install of the options on the cars over there, but if they followed those directions you posted, it should have passed their inspection.

I do take some blame in not checking it out right away Friday night, but it was late and my kid was already sleeping by the time I left with the car.

Oh well...You live and learn...

Do you have the entire installation manual for those headrest DVD's?

I only ask becuase they can't figure it out over at the dealer and are going to call Scion tomorrow to figure out what they did wrong. One guy over at the dealer even said that those headrest DVD's aren't supposed to play through the speakers, only in the headphones.

This was my first toyota/scion purchase and so far the only thing impressive is the lack of driving my new xB. Due to the fact that I can't even get a simple answer on how the headrest DVD's are supposed to work.

Makes me almost want to buy a "domestic" brand automobile....NOT....but getting frustrated. nonetheless..

I printed out those instructions and I am going to drop them off at the dealership this morning. It's a shame that I have to go and do the job the dealer should have done in the first place. With all the time that I spent coming out here and asking for help, I probably could have done this install myself.

Here is a tip...when you do get it to work-

You can play the DVD in the driver side and still get sound thru aux on the SNS.

-play the dvd on the drivers side first
-turn on the 2nd monitor
-hit the A/V input button once (on passenger DVD unit), and it wiill run the audio and video over from the driver side on to the passenger side monitor.
-hit the AUX on your SNS to hear the DVD thru your speakers

as an added bonus you get the bling of having both your monitors running the same movie 8)....that is if its wired up correctly.

I didnt even know you could run the same movie on both monitors till like a month after I bought my car...its not in the manual.
