Pioneer 8" Shallow Subwoofer installed [PICS]

I finally got my 8" subwoofer installed. I was waiting for someone to sell their pioneer box on ebay cheap, but after 3 months decided to break down and buy it for $90. Got the speaker on ebay for $70. The amp I already had from my previous installation. I had a 12" in the trunk before this that was too boomy for me, and I wanted my trunk space back.

The sound is a lot weaker than what I had with the 12" but that is to be expected from any 8" The new sub is just enough to make my music sound good, but it doesn't hit the low notes (<50Hz) quite as well as the 12" did (again, expected). Overall I'm happy with the change, I think I'll keep the 12" around in case I need to show off :-)

Looks good, any problems sliding the seat back and forth?

The seat is as far back as it needs to be, and i did have to bend the bracket holding the sensor up a little bit and move the cable for it, nothing too hard. It doesn't move all the way back unless I move the sensor somewhere else. I think it's just fine as it is right now.

Very nice. Where did you get that box at? I want to do a 10".

Cool! That was the "version 1.0" setup in my car too.

The sub only requires 0.3ft^3 thats why the box is so small. a 10" sub would be more tricky, you'd need a completely custom box in order for it to fit under the seat. I got this box from abt.com (never heard of them before, but they had the best price and shipped pretty quickly and for free)

The box for the 10" would be way to big.

Maybe I could do 2 8's, one for each seat. I wonder how that would sound.

There are a few examples of people who have managed to stuff a 10" sub down there... (here is one)

Thanks for the link. After reading that & a another thread I think I will stick with one 8" sub under the seat.

Andrey, if you did not have the "grill" on the box would the sensor even need to be adjusted at all? I'm considering using this exact box or having one built...looks good though man.

I'm pretty sure that I was the first at SL to put a 10" sub under the passenger seat. Others have since done it better but 3 years later, I'm still very happy with my SQ10 under seat setup.

Nice install and the underseat pics are very well done (good focus and lighting). This may be overkill, but consider using braided black nylon sleeving (http://cableorganizer.com/nylon/) over your wires. They look far more professional than the traditional split loom.

As to how many subs for the front, I've got 2 Fosgate 8's in front, one under each seat. Since each seat has a different electronics package, I made two different boxes, but each with the same volume (.25 cu ft ). Used 1/2 Baltic birch instead of 3/4 MDF to save on space. That small a box doesn't have a problem with flex. Amps went over the spare tire, under the cargo bed panel. Pics when I clean the car out!
If anyone has SketchUp, I can send you my box plans.
