Anyone have ideas on how to reduce the size of the shifter console?

I bang my knee on it all the time. If I could reduce the width by couple inches that might do the trick.

If anyone has good instructions for taking the shifter console apart please post it.

you can just pull off the pieces on it and i think just unscrew the surroundings
