single sub suggestions.

I want to run only a single sub in my xb. My amp is a Memphis Belle (sub channel is 1100x1 at 1 ohm).

I am looking to run a sealed box and a very versitile sub (I listen to just about every kind of music), I'm not looking to shake the car apart, just nice tight bass that can go reasonably loud. What sub would you guys reccomend? My budget is arround $600 for the sub. Thanks!

I would suggest a Jl 10 or 12 w6, Like yourself I like tight bass and I run 3 8w3v2s. Ive also heard good things about the image dynamics IDQmax subs. I have no clue what I would change to if I wanted to go with one sub...hopefully this helps alittle

Im gonna sell the Type X and give my mom back her W7 and look into a W6 cause the W7 is one nasty SUB!!!!

Im very happey with both companys and this is my first time running one sub and i dont think im gonna run 2 no longer cause when you have the right sub one is def all you need.

600 on just a sub? just how "tight" does it need to be. I just bought a rockford 10" and it's more then fine.

Thanks for the input guys! I was thinking a w7 but with the 3ohm load I won't have enough power. I was thinking of a w6 because of the DVCs. I might just buy one to try it. I like the single sub because 1 quality sub sounds damn good and saves space and weight.

My other thought was a pair of 8w7s but I don't know how the 8s sound. The only local JL dealer is a prick so I'm not going to him for a listen.

Drew, that last pic is sick! I like the just out of focus background and the storm rolling in.

$600 is right, if that's what it costs to get what I'm looking for. I'd rather spend twice the money on the right one, rather than spend half the money and not be pleased. I like the hard slap a quality sub has, something with very low distortion and a fast response, it's kind of hard to describe. Definatly not like the sound of 2 15s in a bandpass box. I had some RFs a very long time ago and wasn't happy with them. Maybe the newer stuff might sound the way I want. That's a brand I forgot about.

Id love a pair of 8w7s in a sealed box you would need all that power.. Ive hear one in a ported box with only 350rms going to it. it rocked, but was to boomy for me... in a sealed box it would slam much more controlled.

1 kicker solo barak will take that power and only requires a 1 cu ft box sealed, almost indestructable , moves lightning fast, and hits hard as a mofo, very clean sound

Soundstream XXX 15? :D

I <3 mine.

But all due seriousness, check out SSA's XCon line. They just dropped and they should be able to take the 1100watts great! They're less than what you want to spend, too! You'll be able to get a properly designed and constructed enclosure! :D

And as far as 8's go, the Digital Deisngs 1508 > JL 8W7, IMO. Much less expensive, too.

I'll check them out. Do you have a link for the SSAs?

An enclosure won't be a problem. A friend has enclosure design software. I'll have him design it and I'll cut it out on a 4'x8' CNC router I use at work.

CNC router?!?! :tap: I envy you.

SSA's subwoofer line up!!! You could even run an Icon from those guys since you don't want anything that's too incredibly loud.
I still recommend running a ported enclosure, but that's me. You can get it to sound good without being boomy. :D

jl 10w6 would be a good choice for a sub

randomsuper 04-11-2009 05:00 AM

re xxx. great sub that sounds really nice in a sealed enclosure. it won't slam like a ported but it should wang pretty good.
