I second the winter fuel mix. I regularly calculate my fuel consumption using the trip and how much i put in the tank. I do 50/50 city/highway driving and don't punch it at stops. I regularly get 21.5 in the summer and that drops to around 19 in the winter usually Dec-Apr. I use to be on the TRD 19's but just recently switched to the factory alloy 16's and did not notice a change in my fuel economy (I was hoping it would improve). From reading a lot of posts in this forum, I think the mpg varies greatly on this car. Maybe it is due to region or temperature but I have driven like a grandma in mine before and never gotten the reported mpg that some people have said on here. I also took mine to the dealer one time about it and they just blamed it on fuel blend. meh.

My fuel consumption is variable, but winter is definitely the worst (just calculate 26.7mpg two week ago). However, my calculated summer best was 29.9mpg and it's very clear I tend to wait too long before checking my tire pressure. It shouldn't be five pounds or worse low before I top it. I just switched to my snows and so that won't help gas mileage either, though that isn't their purpose ! My best mpg clearly comes with summer blend fuel, but I think the key, at least for me, is to do a better job of maintaining tire pressure.

Still not resolved, I have an opened case with Toyota Canada and was supposed to hear back from them by Monday and it's now Saturday. Guess I'll call them back Monday morning to see what's up.
Here is a snapshot of the performance of my last tank of gas.
(45 litres = 11.89 Gallons)
15.7 L/100kms and 258kms = 15.176 mpg and 160.3138 miles

In the picture, it shows the RPM's at close to 1x. Is the engine warmed up in that picture or cold? My xB is an 08 and it idles around 600 RPM'S when warm. That green light is what? I don't have that on mine, headlights?

You just might want to check the oil, smell it to see if it smells something like raw gasoline which could indicate an over rich fuel condition and maybe washing the oil from the cylinder walls diluting the oil.

I'm getting around 28 mpg during the winter with snow tires and 30ish in the summer with mostly city driving.

I have a 2011 xB with about 1100 kms on it. I am averaging 8.0 L/ 100 km which is about 28-29 mpg for my USA friends. I would say 75% highway driving. Hoping to drop the average to 7.5 L/100 km in the summer. Will keep you posted.

I am still very unhappy with the mileage this gets. I have yet to break 26. I took a highway trip 120 miles last weekend and babied it at 65mph, no A/C and I got 25.3 (hand calc method at refill) That stinks! Scion could have done a better job with this. I figured the reason Scion is so inexpensive is because they use old technology...a 4 speed auto in 2011...come on. Basically left over tooling and parts from older toyotas. That is how they do it. It has been a good reliable car with lots of room and power, I will say that. If I could just squeeze in a 5 speed auto, I would be much happier. This vehicle should EASILY get 30 mpg. Heck even the new 300 hp camaros and mustang v6 gets better and they are heavier. Please can someone help with a 5 spd auto swap? It would be SOOOO much better on the highway. I already posted about this, but it sounds more complicated and expensive than it would be worth. The transmission is no problem as they are all over ebay for less than $500, it is all wiring, ecu, etc. can Just the axle ratio be changed?

I've got an '09, and even when I've been really hard on it, I've never gotten less than 22-23mpg. Now that I drive the speed limit, and use my cruise, I average about 27-29 depending on fuel grade.

2010 xB Manual Tranny, TRD CAI, TRD Muffler, TRD Springs, TRD FRONT STRUT BRACE, TRD REAR SWEY BAR, Rear Spoiler. With the 18'' TC2 wheels my average is 27 MPG (60% HWY 40% City) and with the 16'' Alloy Wheels I get 29 MPG. I change oil and filter every 4k to 5k and I keep the right air pressure with this tool:

$45.00 but you will need battery and a charger, I also have the Craftsman 19.2V C3 Mechanics Combo wich has Combo includes (1) 1/2 in. Compact Lithium Drill, (1) Impact Wrench, (1) Full Size Lithium Battery, (1) Compact Lithium Battery and (1) Multi-Chemical Charger.

Go check those tools, they have lots of power and they also charge really quick.
