Default Engine and Cooling advice

2010 Scion xB

so im looking at getting a water pump, and going to do the idler pulley as well ( sounds like turkey gobble and or valve slap) i called scion and the price is out of control. what are the chances it failing again if i go with OEM that has a one year warranty or do i go with a aftermarket water pump w/ lifetime(limited) warranty. they are about the same price.

I have compared Napa, Autozone, and O' Rielly's parts stores as they are local store. i have no idea where to start online, i dont trust eBay and from experience Amazon is a good service but have had to return a lot of items too.

True Flow (gates) from Napa $65.00

Duralast from Auto Zone $78.88

any one recommend a place?
i see this place but never heard of them, SPARKS PARTS they say all oem parts and about the same price. ROCK BOTTOM but those prices seem to good to be true
any other places? thanx in advance.

from what i read OEM would be Aisin correct?

Yes, Spark Parts are legit. Previously, known as TRD Parts.

They have Genuine OEM parts at Discount, however, you do pay for Shipping.

OEM parts are The Standard to judge others by. Some Aftermarket parts are cheap knockoffs from China like some found on eBay so be careful.
The exception are TRD parts, generally cost more but high quality. I bought my TRD CAI, TRD BBK (Big Brake Kit) and TRD Strut Bar
from Spark Parts at Savings and Recommend them.

Normally, your OEM parts will go far beyond the 1 year warranty. My 1999 Chrysler Town & Country driver's side window wiper motor went out after
6 years. A repair shop replaced it with a aftermarket wiper motor and it only lasted a year. I then had it replaced with a Chrysler OEM part and it has
lasted ever since. IMHO, OEM parts are the way to go if you want parts to last with normal use.

Another good source is Toyota Parts Overstock

If you want to try on-line places, Rockauto has worked well for me.
Quality is variable, but they usually present you with a wide range of prices (assuming price = quality)

I have worked at NAPA for 6 years and the I have yet to have a Truflow water pump come back with an issue. However if they do, its covered by a nation wide lifetime warranty. We just started carrying the gate water-pump / timing kits as well.

I believe that Aisin is OEM. Rock auto sells that for $44 and $6 priority mail.

Hi Mr Luv,
I see you are a fan of Rock Auto.
I have been lucky so far and not had to return anything. But from those reports, I might as well not bother.
Picking the right part can be confusing on their web site and you do have to be carefull and of course they don't carry everything.
Thanks for the heads up

I'm sure there are folks that have Good Experiences or Luck with Rock Auto. If you want to do Business with them, that is your Privilege.

I Myself have not dealt with them. But, when I see some of the Complaints against them, it raises Red Flags to me. OTOH, places like Spark Parts (formally TRD Parts) I have not yet seen the complaints like RA.

Their Parts are always Discounted from List Prices from my Local Toyota Dealer. The only Cavert is I do have to pay Shipping from SC to Cali. But, still manage to come out ahead because of their Discount.
